Che -Guevara Posted March 6, 2013 ^You always have a choice. It's rather ironic you would condemn Somalis for learning Turkish by writing in English.
Wadani Posted March 6, 2013 I had a choice as a two year old newcomer to Canada? Hmm interesting.
nuune Posted March 6, 2013 Good point yaa Che, dadkeena waxaa iskaga qasan choicekuu Wadani sheegayo, haduu Wadani Af English by choice u bartey, then let others grown up or younger to learn Turkish, it is our duty to also introduce Somali to the masses of the world, qof idin ka xigo ma jirto, Turkishka luqadaha qalaad unnbuu ka mid yahay and learning it is just as if you are learning Arabic or any other language. wiil Posted March 6, 2013 you guys don't have the right to tell us what to learn and what to not, and Turkish language is not worse than english or any other languages people learning, if you don't want to learn turkish language no one is forcing you to, but don't force us not to learn it
Wadani Posted March 6, 2013 People can learn the Turkish language. There's nothing wrong with it. Wat i object to is this paternalistic relationship developing between the 'benevolent' Turks and the ever grateful Somalis....leading Somalis to name their daughters Istanbul, fly Turkish flags all over Somalia and learn the Turkish language. One should learn a langauge for a desire to increase ones cultural capital or for practical reasons, eg jobs, but not because one is overwhelmed by gratitude to a benefactor, as this usually leads to a slave complex, where everything associated with the 'master' is better and everything indigenous is inferior. Somalis are already sick and tired of cultural imperialism, as we r still reeling from the effects of western colonialism and the more recent Arabization (dressed up as Islam)....we dont need a third Ottomon stage to take their places.
