North Korea confirms 'successful' nuclear test.

 

North Korea has confirmed that it has carried out its third nuclear test, after international monitors detected seismic activity close to the nation's nuclear test site.

 

 

"A third nuclear test has been successfully staged," the state-run Korean Central News agency said.

 

"The nuclear test was conducted as part of measures to protect our national security and sovereignty against the reckless hostility of the United States that violated our republic's right for a peaceful satellite launch," KCNA said.

The West were never really that worried about North Korea. All their sanctions, negotiations, and condemnations were only to ease the anxiety of their close allies South Korea and Japan. Its only these two prosperous and neighbouring nations that North Korea can and usually threaten with violence. Moreover, the North Korean dictatorship can not risk opening up their country to the wider world for trade and investment as doing so would result in gradual erosion of their deeply entrenched control and bring about some challenges to the absolute leadership of the ruling family. This fear the North Korean regime has about the outside world forces it to be a closed society dependent on foreign aid; and the West and all the other relevant world powers know that North Korea's regular threats and tantrums and mere tactics to seek more aid and favours.

In my opinion the real nightmare of the West is Iran's nuclear programme. A nuclear test carried out by Iran would change a lot of things in the security and political order of the World. Israel would for the first time in decades feel unsure about its very future existence.
