Malika Posted February 9, 2013 ^Sometimes work isn't about earning the 'bread' is where one goes to exercise ones brain, to socialise etc... I cant imagine a life of just cooking/cleaning/serving..
Waranle_Warrior Posted February 12, 2013 ^Socialise you say? I thought our(Somali) woman were very social and outgoing both in Somalia and the west as they take part in the all ladies gatherings, Hagbad aruun and weddings. Also I agree she doesn't have to cook, clean or serve all times, she can go out all she wants to visit her friends, mother, sister or what have you but what I was saying there was no need for the lady to go to work everyday from 9-5 when there is no pressure and specially when the man is doing the same. She should stay at home and perhaps have more time to socialise with her children, friends and family or whatever she likes. Regular work is about winning bread for me and not social. Here is a reason your mind might not comprehend. She might actually like work and the challenge to achieve something- Work in some cases is an aspect of one's lifestyle and an extension of their self. It's not just about earning your bread. Rahima Posted February 16, 2013 I always find that there is an element of control when men reason why should my wife work if i can bring the bread home. If the woman makes this choice on her own accord- no problem, but if she does choose to work then it is a must that her husband do his share of the household chores. Motivations for working are numerous and money is not always the main objective. For some women i know they want to have a sense of personal achievement and independence. That said though having your own career and making your own dosh has the potential to equalise the marriage- 'traditional' roles are often unequal. She was tall beautiful, had long extensions and wore a form fitting White wedding dress. She looked stunning but at the same time foreign looking and uncomfortable. I love how Somalis describe brides as 'caroosad' because she looked plastic and barbie looking. All you married girls- You wore a white dress (don't lie!) Why? Why one dress?Just go with several. This one is beautiful, especially in the form of a ivory long sleeve lace. May the day never end!

Maarodi Posted April 1, 2013 This was a fun thread. I missed out on adding my 2 cents in the first couple of pages but once this topic comes back around I'll make sure to add my humble opinion on Somali girls and ajinabi relationships In regards to white dresses, I can't stand them. Especially the strapless ones. I'd rather wear traditional clothes or any other color but white. Didn't widows wear white in Somalia?
