One thing I realized while I was in Xamar was the absence of birds in the city. I know inay aad u qaxeen the avian family, but their absence in the city was very noticeable to me. Early mornings every day -- 6:30 am -- waxaa kusoo kici jiray dhawaaqa hoomanka baabuurta (biiiib, biiiiiiiib), not the singing of the birds. Granted, the hotel I was staying at was on jidka Maka Almakurama at Guriga Shaqaalaha, my room's window facing that very, very busy thoroughfare.
