Xaaji Xunjuf Posted January 16, 2013 Introduction: In spite of Meles’s death and historical persona changes in Ethiopian political leadership, The Somali people’s saga is never ending. Today if there is any way to describe the Somali Regional State at best, it could be George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) novel, established in Oceania, where society is tyrannized by The Party and its totalitarian ideology. A province (Somali Region) perpetual war, pervasive government surveillance, and public mind control, dictated by a political system euphemistically (Ethnic based -federal states) under the control of a privileged Inner Party elite (The military and their Somali drudges) that persecutes all individuals regardless of their gender, age or political affiliation. In this paper, we will reflect on the failed negotiations, the change in the central government and its impact, the Somali Regions situation and ONLF. (Some of the 1984 book description is taken from.wikipedia.org) Ethio-ONLF Negotiations Recently the long anticipated negotiations of ONLF and Ethiopia concluded without any meaningful discussions. The Karamarda Group has offered plausible scenarios when the negotiations rumored back on May 2012. Based on the historical data and our experience in the past 20 years of working in Ethiopia, we offered our view and what might come out of these negotiations. Whether the two groups would resume talks or not remain to be seen. For the first time in the recent Somali-Ethiopia conflict, The Ethiopian government accepted international mediation and met face to face with The O'gaden National Liberation Front ( ONLF). The Ethiopian government and the O'gaden National Liberation Front were mediated by the Kenyan government, financed by the western governments. The first meeting was held on September 6 and 7, right after the burial of Meles Zenawi, the architect of present-day Ethiopia. To spectator’s surprise, in the midst of a nationwide mobilized mourning, where everyone including homeless, disable, elders were forced to Read more http://www.wardheernews.com/public_html/Articles%202013/Jan/Failed%20Negotiations%20_Karamarda.pdf

Wadani Posted January 17, 2013 Xaaji, before they even consider working with the other opposition groups, should they not first begin including non-cagdheer Somalis into their rebel group? They must make this a soomaali galbeed resistance and make space for all soomaalis living in the kilinka. Change of name and a reshuffle of leadership to represent the clan composition of the region is a must.

Change of name and a reshuffle of leadership to represent the clan composition of the region is a must. For that to happen the trust between the different tribes in Somali galbeed needs to be restored i dont see that happening any time soon, the Ethnic Somalilanders dont trust bigfoot community. And the Bigfoot community dont trust the Ethnic Somalilanders. I remember afaraad a wing of the WSLF that splitted from the WSLF in 1978, initially they were all fighting for the same cause against the xabashis. But after the Somali Ethio war, when several ethnic Somaliland colonels and generals were ambushed and murdered by another wing of the WSLF. Is when shit turned real ugly the fourth division or Afaraad splitted and started instead of fighting the Ethios the attacked their former allies the WSLF. Later assisted by general Maxamamad cali and his group of men and later with the formation of SNM they fought under the command of the SNM. So in order for reer Somali galbeed to unite and hold hands lots of things need be dealt with talked about trust needs to be returned with in the societies. I dont think the ONLF name or the name is the problem thats just a name but the people there have no common interest it seems. Also the Ethnic Somalilanders in galbeed have little trust in the ONLF because i remember in 2007 2008 2006 they burned down lots of trucks that belonged to Somalilanders, just because rayaale handed them over to the xabashis now we could say it was wrong to hand them over to the xabashis i agree no one can condone that, but those ordinary Somaliland businessmen lost all their capital and they had nothing to do with the whole conflict. So wadani its not as easy as you say it is.

cubano Posted January 27, 2013 Hi,How are you? May you help me with a doubt? I would like to know your opinion about WSLF fate after ****** War. I heard WSLF/Western Somalia Liberation Front was defeated in 1978 and afterwards WSLF was not a serious military threat for Ethiopia. Is my opinion right?
