Wadani Posted January 16, 2013 Alpha If someone is considered 'nasab' that means he is of the nobility within his society by virtue of birth and not neccessarily by merit.
nuune Posted January 16, 2013 Alpha knows what Laangaab means but not what Nasab or Laandheer mean.

Alpha Blondy Posted January 16, 2013 NGONGE;908881 wrote: ^^^ It means the bit I qouted in bold there. oh right. thanks for the clarification. it shouldnt bother them really. identity is constructed and not biological. i'm quite certain there are a few illegitimates in my long left tribal lineage. i count about 23 to the MAN. but there are also some small leaves clans within the wider tribal coalition, which have developed as some type of protection rackets. they call them 'danwanaag'. i don't think its particularly fair we pay their 'qaadhan'at a disproportionate rate. NGONGE Posted January 16, 2013 ^^ Back then, it did not matter if they were illegitimates. Safety was in numbers.
Wadani Posted January 16, 2013 I not so sure about nasab-ness being directly correlated with laandheernimo. I come from a very nasab subclan within the duriyadda, yet I don't count that many names back to the Old man. It's like 16 names. What does this mean for me and the future of my kids???? Alpha Blondy Posted January 16, 2013 but its all about authenticity.....and a sense of belonging, i suppose. but where does one draw the line. i guess as the popular adage goes 'a dog born in a kennel is still a dog''. you have remain proud of what you are? irrespective of what others say about you. nuune Posted January 16, 2013 Alpha,if we follow your logic there about the dog, then you are an automatic shinbir sxb, in this case, a qooleey, what that means is that maba abtirsan kartid, and that results of you being unknown to the masses, so what shal we call you, I don't mean to hurt you, sxb, but you don't strike me the guy oo abtirsan karo illaa 30 awoow gaarsiin karo or as far as Nabi Nuux or Nabi Idriis, well for those who can do that doesn't mean they are automatically being verfied since anyone can master the names, but when you are doing the abtirsi, you do it with a well known men who will know who your great men of awoowayaal were, so it is not simple, just be your qooleey sxb, a shimbir in this case, anigu I am already Mulac, and I love it

oba hiloowlow Posted January 16, 2013 NGONGE;908871 wrote: This "nasab" obsession played a huge part back then. Or else, why would the Arabs buy a dark Sudanese man from another DARK Sudanese man or an Ethiopian from a Somali? In addition, the slavery was not limited to black people. There were also slaves from Iran, Syria, Indonesia and other parts of Asia. Furthermore, there was some occassions where a slave was freed becuase he/she proved their "nasab". So, although the bragging is pointless today, there is an element of truth to the nasab argument. Hade NG the only reason somalis were 'nasab' was the fact that somalis were Muslims otherwise we would've been enslaved as well
Wadani Posted January 16, 2013 ^ lol, do u honestly believe that? Cajiib. Waar Carabtaa anaga dirqii nagaga baxsatay, markasaad ku leedahay wayna cabiidsan gaadheen.
