A statement has been issued following Prime Minister David Cameron’s call with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia.

A No.10 spokesperson said:

__________________________________________________

“The Prime Minister spoke to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia yesterday to discuss progress in the country since the President’s election.

Hassan Sheikh said his topmost priority was to create stability and security, and to strengthen governance and institutions in Somalia. The Prime Minister congratulated the President on what he had already achieved, including improvements in security and an action plan to prevent violence against women. They also discussed the successful action that had forced Shabaab into retreat. The Prime Minister backed the Somali government’s immediate priorities as they rebuild the country after two decades of conflict.

The leaders confirmed that the UK and Somali governments will co-host an international conference on Somalia on 7 May in the UK. This will build on last year’s successful meeting in London to help sustain international support for the progress being made by the Somali government.

The Prime Minister also said that he would use the UK’s Presidency of the G8 this year to reinforce further support for the efforts of the Somali government to build a strong, prosperous and democratic country.”

Marksman

They should address the harrassment of Somalis at UK airports and forcing them to spy for the MI5. But I guess that's not on the agenda.

Too bad they're not holding the conference in Mogadishu. That would send a strong message.

Complete waste of time. Meanwhile they spend 390 million pounds on Ethio, the largest recipient of UK foreign aid...including wanting to train the Liyu police...
