Coofle Posted December 30, 2012 Ah...Children's books...Storytelling... Stories are painted and glued to the memory of a child only when they are melodiously told by a fully-fledged raconteur, more likely a grandmother or a grandfather. I remember how I enjoyed bedtime stories , I think the tale of Dhag-dheer was told to us more than 100 times and everytime it gave me the thrill and fear but I still recall how happy I got when I hear the song "Dhag-dheer dhimatoo , dhulkii nabadeeey" I have spotted a new blog dedicated for somali old stories...Enjoy the good read http://aleel999.wordpress.com/2012/12/01/dameeray-mrs-donkeysomali-cinderella/
Blessed Posted December 30, 2012 You can also try dual language books, popular western / english books with a Somali translation, really good way of learning Somali for a qurbaawi child.
nuune Posted December 30, 2012 looooool@qurbaawi child, never thought children could be classfied as qurbaawi or diaspora, waa wax igu cusub Huuwaya huuway, habartaa ma joogto, kabax kabax aadey, kabaheedi qaadatey dhagdheer dhimatooy dhulkii nabadee mise diin iyo dawaco kee rabtaa
Malika Posted December 30, 2012 Try the African center - most books are bilingual and tend to be books that children are exposed to in Nursery/first school libraries etc http://www.africabookcentre.com/acatalog/Somali_for_Children.html Dhag dheer dimate is classic story - never got tired of it.
