Somaliland ultra nationalist party Wadani comes out in huge numbers in the election rallies

Recommended Posts

^^Just like how you support the practice of gerrymandering to gain disproportionate power in Burco, You really think the clans in east Burco is bigger than those that reside on the west-side (population wise)?

Say what? Where did that come from? You always seem to be claiming this that or the other without much in the way of evidence or independent information.

At least things are clear from your side now. :)

Ok, so how does that equate to "support[ing] the practice of gerrymandering to gain disproportionate power in Burco"?

Did the NEC do wrong according to elcectoral rules? If they did, I will be against the decision. If not and then you should stop whining every election about being robbed.

Deal?

AfricaOwn, Norf is a known asset to our community brother; it's counterproductive that we focus on mere misunderstandings.

That is the drama with democracy, esp when clan issues or emotions count more than the rest;

you can only treat few people as a doctor but a clinician can impact on and save many more lives as minister or president if sincere (he said apparently too that he can do so much more in politics than as a common DR).

All the big issues such as water and hygiene or nutrition litteracy (both areas account for most health problems esp. in Sland where infectious diseases are the most common issues) but also healthcare on the curative rather than preventive side need urgent focus and to be placed as a top priority; this is what really matters alongside small-scale infrastructure scheme on the economic side.

But that can only be tackled by uncorrupt leaders focused on those twin priorities, with supportive elites and medias (not resisting proper taxes and stopping distractions with irrelevant issues and other divisive matters).

NEC appeared to mess that up, Why did they go back and try to fix the issue if NEC has not done anything wrong? Why are the west burco folks angry about this? Why aren't you angry about this stuff happening in your own city? You just accepted the outcome because it supported your bias.

I was hoping you could tell me the answers to those questions. But, you don’t know the answers yourself and have somehow concluded it was “the practice of gerrymandering to gain disproportionate power in Burco”. Let me help you.

Given that sub clan interests and desire for unity trumps all, there had been complaints from one that the western, southern and northern parts of the city only had around 80 polling stations while the other clan in the east had around 150.

The reason for this was simple and based on returns from the 2010 presidential election. In that contest the incumbent from Somaliland’s west was being challenged by the eventual winner ‘Silanyo’ and another contender in whom west Burco had an equal lack of interest. Therefore they didn’t bother turning out to vote. NEC (Somaliland National Electoral Commission) relying on the computer-generated figures from last time therefore gave them fewer stations. Technically
correct
of course, but seasoned hands reckon better safe than sorry – always better to consult the parties, elders etc and head off a problem.

Re-phrased from: http://www.progressio.org.uk/blog/ground/somaliland-everything-fine-except-when-it-not

What is there to get angry about? Its the way elections work.
