Abwaan Posted November 14, 2012 This is why he was attacking Abdiweli. Faroole was scared that Abdiweli will form a party before him.

Homunculus Posted November 14, 2012 I don't support a multiparty democracy in Somalia. I don't think that a clannish society is capable of separating their clan affiliation from their political ones. Look at Somaliland, their experiment with a multiparty system is turning into sub clan competition.
Dr_Osman Posted November 14, 2012 Homunculus, I agree I am not big fan of democracy card because in reality the people are more aligned to clan. The 3 party system might working by bringing clans together but still the root of the issue will always be clan. People will vote for they're clan and whichever party they are in but at the same time there might be ppl who vote along political agendas but they will surely be in the minority. But there is one key advantage to democracy in a Puntland context and that is the people will need to accept and not cause trouble when a government is elected because the majority have voted. So it can contribute to stabilizing puntland but as far as getting rid of clans is just an impossible task. By the way I predicted the parties already. The first party will be based on horumar, peace, etc. The second party will be very militaristic and about securing puntland borders, stregthening security domestically, and have a strong puntland first and hamar second policy. The third party in my opinion will be most likely a swing party that has a bit of both the two main parties policies and will do a coalition with whoever pays them off. But yeah the two main parties that will be in government in puntland will be either horseed party or the nationalistic puntland first party.
Xaaji Xunjuf Posted November 14, 2012 Dr Osman can you tell us more about the nationalistic Puntland first party?
