With that statement, Faroole captures the summit of the current arguments with respect to how to move forward in Puntland politics. There is no shortcuts to a legitimate presidency . The process is defined, and if one is genuinely interested moving the region forward, one needs to play with the rules that are set. Folks who are dominating VOA and BBC airwaves are apparently uncomfortable in accepting this challenge. They are looking for quick wins where there is none to be had. It is going to be tough and hard to put together a political party with broad appeal. But that is how to do it.

 

You may not agree with Faroole all the time, but this one he has the better argument .

That is exactly what General Abdullaahi Samatar et all are implying when they accuse Faroole for an illegal extension. They figured it would be considerably easier to bribe the sitting representatives than to engage in the multi party system Faroole has proposed and the parliament adopted.

^^He is otherwise a very effective technocrat but in his recent political engagement , he has been very small indeed. When a shift from clannish political construct to a more democratic however primitive discourse is proposed he should have been supportive. This thing is bigger than Faroole; it is about moving away from tribal stuff that vexed us for a long time.

One step forward, two back. The faroole is in the right direction, the way he is going about is wrong. Telling contestants to form parties at the 11th hour will repeat a mistake the Somalilanders already have made and Puntland should learn from. Somalidu xisbi khalad bay ja fahmeen, urur shaqsey ku salaysan ama personal cults xisbi maha which is what telling candidates to form parties at this stage will lead to. You need parties based on ideas: socialist, liberals/progressives, greens, conservatives and so on.

I am certain it will be announced soon. Faroole with all his fast tongue proved to be a different kind of politician; a federalist by necessity, a shrewd by nature, with the intention for details to win every and each squabble. His strategic move for multiparty system in Puntland, if successful, will be a catalyst for his political comeback nationally.

you provide platforms for parties to be formed, and that is what has been done. The political market in Puntland will determine if party based on personality or sub clannish ambition will succeed. There is no how-to tutorial for forming parties. And this party thing was in the works for a while now; it is not like Faroole just woke up and declared new rules for the game. It is those who betted on a political immaturity on Puntland's part that are most surprised...they were hoping this thing will fail in the parliament and will never survive ...

There is no how to tutorial but you can set the parameters of what is permissible to only ideologically based parties excluding parties based on clans or personalities. this move to, telling these guys to go form parties on the other hand directly encourages these cult organizations. Puntland should not let market decide but determine what goods can be sold in such market.
