The State Department said in a statement that Washington looks forward to Shirdon's selection of a new cabinet and its approval by the Somalia's parliament "in accordance with Somalia's new provisional constitution."

The statement said Washington also looks forward to "hearing from the new government how we can best work together in partnership for the benefit of Somalia and the region."
