Carafaat Posted September 14, 2012 A while back we used the Belbin Team Roles model at work. I wondered if this theory about which kind of teams are succesfull, can be also applied to Somalis as a team?? http://changingminds.org/explanations/preferences/belbin.htm http://www2.ifm.eng.cam.ac.uk/dmg/tools/process/images/belbin727_534.gif BelBin Theory The idea behind the Belbin Team Roles Theory is that a team is not a bunch of people, but a congregation of individuals, each of whom has a role to play in the team. Everyone has behavioural strengths and weaknesses in a team . And to get succesfull and high-performing teams from start to finish, you need each of the behaviours in the team The Team Roles The Belbin Team Roles are used widely in thousands of organisations all over the world today. By identifying our Team Roles, we can ensure that we use our strengths to advantage and that we manage our weaknesses as best we can. Balance of diffrent Roles The key is balance. For example, a team with no Innovator struggles to come up with the initial spark of an idea with which to push forward. However, if you have to many Innovators in a team, you will get many ideas, but they are poorly implemented . Similarly, with no Shaper , the team ambled along without drive and direction, missing deadlines. With too many Shapers, in-fighting began and morale was low. Implementers are needed to plan a practical, workable strategy and carry it out as efficiently as possible. Teamworkers help the team to gel, using their versatility to identify the work required and complete it on behalf of the team. When teams diffrences of opinion, a Monitor Evaluator is needed to provide a logical eye, make impartial judgements where required and to weigh up the team’s options in a dispassionate way. Teams need co-ordinators were needed to focus on the team’s objectives, draw out team members and delegate work appropriately. When the team is at risk of becoming isolated and inwardly-focused, Resource Investigators provided inside knowledge on the opposition and made sure that the team’s idea would carry to the world outside the team. Completer Finishers are most effectively used at the end of a task, to “polish” and scrutinise the work for errors, subjecting it to the highest standards of quality control.
