Help me understand this verse from the Qu'ran

2:62. Surely those who believe, and those who are Jewish, and the Nazarenes, and the Sabiens; ANY ONE who believes in God and the Last Day, and does good work, they will have their reward with their Lord, with no fear over them, nor will they grieve......... al-Baqarah 2:62

 

 

What does this mean? how do you answer this when the Nazarenes (christians) and jews bring up this to you?

 

is one who believes in God, and Jesus as son of god, and does good, and believes in the last day - fall under the category of 2:62?

That is true to an extent-- that ayah is refering to the people who followed the Torah & Injeel (Bible) when it was RELEVANT. When Prophet Musa & Isa were spreading the message. Those people would get their reward for submitting to Allah at that time. We have to follow the Prophet in authority at our specific time.

 

But now the only Book that is relevant is the Qur'an and the only religion that would be accepted is Islam---because Allah perserved it in it's perfect, unchaged form. Although we believe in their original forms, the other books now are tampered with.

Lets clearily examine the Verse,

 

Allah said those who believe, which means the muslims, after that he mentions the Jews,christians and Sabiens, this does not mean that these groups are believers. He is merely mentioning 4 groups of people, then he says, if anyone of these groups beleive in Allah, the last day and do righteous work then Allah will forgive them and give them paradise. These conditions are all violated by 3 of the 4 groups. The only ones who believe in Allah and the last day and do righeous deed happend to be the believers(muslims).

Besides all religions and the followers of the previous books came under the category of Islam.

Salaafi was almost to the correct information But still there are some points Scar talked about The Torah and Injeel.While the second verse in suratul Al Cimraan says"

 

"We have revealed down the Torah and Injeel"..We all know It is NEVER the correct Torah and Injeel we have today..They are all corrupted to suit every evil.

Allah SWT says; Inna diina cinda Allaahi al ISLAM, meaning that the only RIGHT DEEN ( Way Of Life) is born out of ISLAM ( SURRENDER TO ALLAH).

 

In that regard

 

Abraham was the first to mention the word MUSLIM ( SURRENDERED PERSON TO ALLAH) by saying he was the first to surrender to Allah SWT.

 

Abraham therefore was the Patriarch of all 3 Monotheistic faiths, in effetct they were all ISLAM, so, Judaism in its time was a form of ISLAM, Christianity in its time was a form of ISLAM, and our own faith is the culmination and the last touch of ISLAM, not the first, but the LAST of a long procession of prophets, descendants of Abraham may peace be upon him.

 

However, the verse is addressing the faithful each in his time, in other words, you may graduate from a college with a certain graduation requirements, years later the graduation requirements change by virtue of an ammendment of the requirements by the Board, which makes your requirements valid for your time while not for later graduates. So Islam, in its last form is the only accepted format, no one can expect to go by the older rules anymore, in that light the verse makes a good sense.
