Recruits in Mogadishu’s new Fire Department are given training by members of the AMISOM forces on January 15, 2013. The fire department will be equipped with three fire engines, which have been donated to the country from the United Kingdom by Alqra Aid and Angloco Limited. After more than two decades of civil war, life in Somalia’s capital is finally returning to some semblance of normality. The 184 Men and 16 women will receive specialized training in Public Order Management facilitated by AMISOM with funding support from the Italian government. The AMISOM Police component has been working closely with their Somali counterparts and with the Federal Government of Somalia to build the capacity and professionalism of the SPF over the past three years, training them in human rights, crime prevention strategies, community policing and search procedures as well as running courses in traffic management and criminal investigation techniques.
