DoctorKenney Posted September 2, 2012 Perhaps the Somali diaspora can help by paying taxes directly to Puntlands government. You'd be surprised at how much money can be raised like this. Somaliland managed to raise millions in government revenue and set up a system with very little foreign support. You have to admire this.
b-boy Posted September 2, 2012 Only Hiiraan have reported this so let's first wait and see if local sources verify this incident:confused:

Carafaat Posted September 2, 2012 Unpaid soldiers can paralyze the whole system. Just like this was the case in Cadde Muuse's time.

Somalia Posted September 2, 2012 It's not a lack of funds, it's corruption or neglect. Also, not even Puntland opposition websites are reporting this, only Hiiraan..
The Sage Posted September 2, 2012 If this is true, then it's likely due to a mix of corruption and general mismanagement. There is definitely need an auditor general or a competent finance minster. If Somaliland can manage to raise a budget of $120 million USD from a similarly sized tax base, then why can't Puntland?

Garaad Bari Posted September 2, 2012 Waxaa la yiri runtu raga kama nixiso,,,, its true sxbayaal since Garowe Principle 1 meeting no salary was paid to all public employees in P/land both civil and army. P/landers are known for their patient and tolerance but its seems that is running out now. According to local sources Bosaso elders convinced the security forces that local pple paid all their tax and they should go to Garowe and deal with the government,,, very sad indeed,,,,,
Samafal Posted September 2, 2012 Let the truth be told, there's wide spread corruption in Puntland perpertrated by Faroole and sons. Puntland needs change and fast otherwise there will be no Puntland soon. People are being patient with these man and his sons for the sake of stability but patience is running out. Forget about taxes from the port, the admin receives regular levies from the oil companies and through projects aimed for curbing piracies but are all spent by Faroole's cronnies and corrupt officials. There are no checks and balances and he's getting autocratic by the day.
