Tallaabo Posted August 26, 2012 I wonder why the Swedes never consider our great poets for the Nobel Prize in Literature. They are so Euro-centric contrary to what Alfred Nobel wished. Blessed Posted August 26, 2012 I suppose, mostly because their works are inaccesible. Gaariye has been translating his work and presenting it to the youth and those of us who grew up in the diaspora, I wish more poets follow suit. Blessed Posted August 26, 2012 True, I recently went to an event where the poet Abdullahi Bootaan has read a hilarious poem on the tube, when I searched for it online. I found this (page 11), the English version is just st*pid. I have read some decent translations of other poems but it's not like the real thing.
