I was there in May. The Saudi government needs to do a lot of work in the area surrounding Haram. They've done quite a bit of work within the Haram itself. There are no pedestrian paths or bridges to get to the Haram from the surrounding hotels - it's a chaotic mass of cars and buses that have no respect for pedestrians. It's also dirty, cramped and lacking in Haji friendly signs and postings. With all the billions in oil money - and the fact that this holy place is the face of Saudi Arabia and the Muslim world you would think they would have done a better job than they have. They have bling bling malls but can't make this area be good.

They've really hurt the aesthetic beauty of the place by building those gaudy towers. IMHO the most predominate structure in the whole city should be the Masjid.

breathtakingly Mansha-allah. Hope i get the chance someday IA. What's w/the cranes? is that some sort of supply-area? The 2nd pic-seems tome that the colossal building w/the clock is almost consuming the immaculate nature of the mosque (could be the camera angle too).

The English clock looks looks out of place and the tall building overpowers the Kabah.

Quite true El Punto. Its difficult getting to and from the xaram in all that chaos. Makka really does need a face lift with better transport links and an organised road system.
