Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted July 28, 2012 “Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was not a thing worth mentioning?” [Al'insaan 76:1] This same 'thing' ayaa balaayo ismoodi doono markuu qaangaaro, even would later tempted to call itself a 'god.' Khayr Posted July 28, 2012 What is strange is how the nafs works. We forget and forget that we are in a state of forgetfulness most the time. The story of Iblis and Adam comes to mind. When Iblis out of pride said about Adam to God - You have created him from clay and created me from Fire. A sign of the pride from Iblis that ousted him from his close proximity with God because of that sign - Pride (marked with forgetfulness of the nafs). Positive Posted July 28, 2012 This same 'thing' ayaa balaayo ismoodi doono markuu qaangaaro, even would later tempted to call itself a 'god.' Eebboow There is more to the constitution of man than meet the eyes. What we see above is the corporeal part of the person which is also colloquically called the the vessel, the vehicle and other names which asign that part of man as dwelling place or house for higher parts of the Self. The body itself being inanimate drives life from the presence and by its proximity to Soul; when the Soul leaves it as in the process of death the body disintegrates and thus goes back to its elemental parts of the earth. Hence indentifying yourself with the vulnerable physical body brings only anguish and emotional distress. A better conceptual understanding, in my view, is that the Insaan , as Soul. is older and wiser than ' this thing ' in the picture including any and all subsequent bodily development of the person. Soul is what one is and the body is a necessary component during Its sojourn in this physical reality. The Awakener2
