As for France vs Romania, France will win this one very comfortably. I would go as far saying they will score 3 goals. Again, as is usual with international football, I don’t know what the tactics will be but considering the prestigious leagues the French players play in, their experience and their pace all over the park, I would be surprised if Romania even go a sniff of a goal tonight.

Holland vs Italy is a tough one to call. The Dutch team is a little more experienced than a few years ago but the Italians will never lie down. Again, I have no idea what their respective tactics will be because I have not seen them play for 2 years since the world cup but I can guess how things will pan out. Italy will try to contain the Dutch and the Dutch will use a lot of wing play. I will go out on a limb and say the Dutch to sneak it.

Now it is time for SOL to ban lousy predictors. the match he said will be tight ended 3-0, the one he said will end in 3-0 proved to be an stalemate. I knew it was going to come to this, when they allowed peopel who are more privy to SHAX and JARA'KA BOODO to comment on football.

Anyway, Adios le Bleu. Way tageen kuwaasi. Waa kolkay Axmaraa night watchmen odhan jireen,

France nabadgalyo. People will see that France hasn't underperformed last night when they see how the panicky but composed Romanians play the Dutch. Wait for that as well.

Italy: What do you expect when a team of old grumpy men in their mid-30s (in football terms they are old), living by the glory of the past are assembled. Grosso and Di Natale, and Zambrotta are the only good ones. Why would anyone keep Camranosi, the combative but less constructive Gattuso, and Masimo Ambrossini in the squal. Pirlo is class.

But again, Italy got a doze of their own medicine last night. They like to sit back and catch the opponents in the counter. I am glad they got a whipping it from Marco Van Basten's men. I would have liked 5-o.

France disappointed at the World Cup and will not find this tournament easy either. I get the feeling that they could be the country to miss out, with Italy and Holland sneaking through.

PS: More to the point, who is the rest of Europe going to boo in the absence of an England team?

My prediction: Most people cannot see beyond Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and France. The bookies make them the favourites. However, I'm going to go for HOLLAND.

The player in the pciture is of course
Marius Lacatus (the famous number 7).

Look at the Holland midfield and attack:

Midfield

Wesley Sneider

Rafaeal Van der Vaart

Giovanne Van bronckhorst

Three man attack

Van pierse

Van nisterlrooy

Robben

I think Van Basten has opeted for 4-3-3 formation. that suits teams that have good wing players (as Holland do) very well. It is 6 while attacking,7 while defending. The full backs must be good, and I think Ooijer is more than reliable. Bouma is the weak on the left.

Back, between the posts, is the impregnable Edwin Van der Sar. A penalty specialist, to boot.

This is what I posted a week ago. To which tyhe king of Jara'ka booodo and layla-gobolo- NORTHERN replied by saying Van der vaat and Van bronckhorst are crap. Well, hope he hasn't committed sucide.

I seem to be doing better than you so far. I did say the French won’t do much as there are too many individuals in the team earlier in this thread. Romania proved to be lacking a cutting edge. I was obvious France were the better team.

Who would have expected a 3-0 scoreline in favour of the Dutch? I got the winner right though.

CAN't understand why Italy need 3 central midfielders that can't run! GATuso with Pirlo and the likes of casanp and delboy further up works far better........

ps. Italians weren't that bad last nite...in fact, they could got 2/3 goals themselves!

p.s I'm still sticking with France to win ze tournament1

:D

Ruud van Nistelrooy's opening goal for the Netherlands against Italy provided the first major talking point of Euro 2008.

Van Nistelrooy looked in an obvious offside position when he steered a close-range finish past Gianluigi Buffon to put the Dutch on the way to a crucial 3-0 win in Berne.

Italy coach Roberto Donadoni was gracious, saying: "I accept it. There's no point crying about it. The referee made a mistake. He's human."

Italy's fans, however, were not as forgiving after watching the incident replayed inside the Wankdorf Stadium in Berne.

But what looked a desperately poor decision was, in fact, a brilliant piece of officiating, according to the chairman of Austria's refereeing commission Gerhard Kapl and Premier League referees' chief Keith Hackett.

Both said Van Nistelrooy was played onside by Italy's Christian Panucci, who had been injured seconds earlier and was lying behind the goal when the Dutch striker scored.

Kapl said the goal was "100% correct, without any doubt", quoting article 11.4.1. of the refereeing code that states "an opposing player cannot be offside when one of the last two defenders has left the field of play" - as in the case of Panucci.

Hackett added: "I have listened to the commentators criticising the first Holland goal stating that Van Nistelrooy was offside.

Christian Panucci went off through contact with his own goalkeeper Buffon.

"He is still considered part of the game.

"The fact is the assistant was correct. The defender who slid off the field is still regarded as active."

Kapl added that the rule was specifically designed to prevent a team causing a deliberate offside - but does that tell the whole story?

Panucci was in no way attempting to gain an advantage or deliberately trying to play the Holland attackers onside.

He had actually been knocked behind the goal by a collision with his own goalkeeper Buffon, so where does the law stand on that?

France are out for good saaxiib. They won't beat Italy, and certainly not Holland.

Fancy Romania to advance. But the Italians aren't so bad as you say. The result was surely exaggerated. Infact, I haven't seen Italy play so constructively for ages. The first OFF-SIDE goal unsettled their nerves. But I don't cry for the Azzuri. They bore moe to death with their cheatings and ultra-professionalism.

A&T- We both know Romania were not there to shine or to play good football. They were there to destroy French’s game and tactic. France’s line up was lousy. I don’t understand what the coach thinking was. He rested his young talented players for the next two games or was it because he knew Romania were a rough team and did not want to risk his best players.

Romania played rough, strategies match and just waited for the French to attack.

Spain vs Russia is a tough one. The Spanish need to play at a high tempo and force the issue. But I bet they just sit back and wait and see.

^^ The Russian manager is promising an upset. They're good enough to deliver one too.

Anyway, let us wait for what A&T thinks before we make up our minds on the correct result. :D
