Of course, but what if Puntland just buys the president? On a serious note, I'm just kidding, the next president should be given to people from the Somaliland-diid regions, Awdal or SSC, as a symbolic gesture.
oba hiloowlow Posted June 20, 2012 The campaign office of Dr. M. (Baadiyow) expresses concern a shady practices may undermine the process to end the transition in Somalia Mareeg.com- Mogadishu, Somalia – The campaign office of Dr. Abdurahman M. Abdullahi (Baadiyow) is calling on all the stakeholders of the ongoing process to end the transition in Somalia to find a way of ensuring a transparent selection and election system. 1. We believe that the traditional elders are today the most credible representatives of the people. We also believe that, if left alone, the elders are capable of honestly debating and delivering on sensitive matters like the selection of delegates who would deliberate on the draft constitution and members of the upcoming Somali parliament. 2. As traditional elders take on their responsibilities, we sincerely hope that they will always be mindful of their national and religious duty to select qualified individuals with the requisite skills, education and experience to salvage the country and its people. 3. We caution TFG leaders from using their positions to attain unfair advantage in the selection and election process. We have already noted that some of these leaders, who themselves are candidates, have been unrelenting in their attempts to woo the traditional elders to their side. 4. We urgently need clarification as to who to complain to in cases of apparent corruption in the ongoing process to end the transition? Cognizant of the importance of this issue, we strongly recommend the formation of an independent commission or some kind of a watchdog to monitor irregularities and at least name and shame those who are found to be behind such shady and corrupt practices. 5. Finally, we would like to bring to everyone’s attention that except for the selection of the 135 traditional elders, not much progress has been made towards the fulfillment of the Garowe and Addis Ababa declarations. The 825 constituent assembly to deliberate on the draft constitution has not yet been formed, and there is no movement at all on the issue of selecting the parliamentarians and giving women their fair share of seats. If there is no speedy action on those issues, it is doubtful that there will be a presidential election in August of this year. Therefore, we are strongly urging all the stakeholders not to waste any more time and to take action now.
