The Origin of Taleex fort and the Devrish tombs. National Geographics 1931.

Recommended Posts

The fort of Taleex was built by Yemeni masons around 1911-1913 during the catastrophe that is remembered as "Xaaraamo-Cune" the various inter-clan wars and the sever draught of 1910-1913. But what is Taleex?? is it the Fort or is it the later day village of that name? in another word was there a village called Taleex before the Dervish take over of much of the Nugaal in 1910-1911? and finally what certain clan fanatsies have to do with a single fort out of six in Somaliland and even equal number and maybe more in the rest of Somalia from Baladweyn to Iimey.?

There are 6 forts in Somaliland all built around 1910-1915:

1- Shimbriis (Sanaag)

2- Jida Ali (Sanaag)

3- Buraan (Sanaag)

4- Midhisho (Sanaag)

5- Taleex (sool)

6- Gal-baribuur (sanaag)

Of all these forts none is claimed by a single clan with exception of Taleex , the modern clan that inhabit the village Taleex have contributed nothing to the origin and the building of the fort but yet the history of th fort is been used as clanist barvado and its history was monoploized by certain clan.

According to the Kacaan-version of history Aw Jaamac Cumar Ciise and his student, the fort of Taleex is made up of 4-5 sub-forts and around 6 shrines of the founders and saints of the Dervish movement. One issue isn't disputed and that is the fort was built later around a cluster of Dervish shrines/tombs and thats the only reason the place was chosen. Its a fact that is always underplayed or never mentioned by the Kacaan version, the reason will become obvious soon.

Muhammad bin * Abdullah Hasan is said to have commenced building Taleh

about 1913; prior to this there were no buildings there. It was built under the

supervision of Yemeni Arab masons engaged for the purpose, possibly with a

Turk as architect, though on this point I have found no good information.

The walls are built of unshaped blocks of anhydrite, some weighing 150-200

pounds, but mostly smaller, with some rubble infilling. The blocks are very

well set in a mortar of mud mixed with dung. The lintels of doorways and

openings are made from small tree trunks of a particular hard wood. A profusion

of these has been used, and must have meant widespread collection in

the country.

South of the main cave-well is the considerable tomb of 'Abdullah Hasan

senior, well plastered inside and out; it is now said to be empty. Adjoining this

on the west is a walled garden with massive gateway and guard-house; the rest

ofthe wall is not more than 5 feet high and plastered. There are still odd bushes

and signs of cultivation to be seen, but the comparatively deep well in the middle

is dry. To the east lies a row of four tombs. The most northerly is that of one

Soldan Nur of the Habr Yunis tribe; the next two, neither being plastered.

and the first with the top left unfinished, are those of Hawiya notables whose

names my Somalis did not know. The most southerly tomb is that of a

man of the Habr Jaalo tribe. The isolated tomb still farther east is that of

'AbdullahHasan's mother. All the tombs are provided with narrow but very

massive wooden doors, swinging about vertical extensions from top and base

of one side.

A little east of Soldan Nur's tomb is a shallow nulla, seen as a dark line in the

photograph, and known as Hed Kaldig, the Place of Blood. This was the

execution ground where those to whom the Mullah had taken a dislike were

shot, with or without torture. Had such anticipated trouble and escaped, any

members of their families on whom hands could be laid, including women and

children, are said to have been shot in their stead, and their bodies left for the

hyaenas. After the capture of Taleh pious Somalis collected the quantities of

human bones found hereabouts and gave them burial. However this may be

there are no human bones about now.

According to Jardine the R.A.F. bombed Taleh on 4 February 1920, and

set fire to brushwood huts inside and outside Silsilat, but did little damage to

the main structures, which is not surprising. The place was attacked by our

tribal levies under Captain Gibb on the evening of February 9; 'Abdullah

Hasan had already fled, and by the morning of the 10th the levies were in com?

plete possession. A detachment of the Camel Corps remained for two or three

weeks to demolish the fortifications. Dar Ilalo,Taleh, and Falat were severely

damaged and made unusable, and the strong points fronting Silsilat were

partly destroyed. Razing such a structure would have required much further

work and explosives, so that a considerable part has been left with little damage.

It will remain as a relic of that rather remarkable person its builder, the only

Somali who has so far created substantial buildings in his country.

Now that was 1920-1931 history and names of the tombs, after the 1969 coup and 1974's Aw Jaamac Cumar Ciise book and history, the following was ultered to give the history a clanist taste and perception :

1- changed the name and even the species burried in the tombs (from a human to a horse)

2- also chose to fill the largest tomb which was empty in 1930's(by Abdullah Hassan the father of Sayid, which was not the case in 1930's the tomb was empty).

Aw Xiin....Aadan is part of pattern of any secessionist that joins SOL-angry, at times bitter and obsessed with kacaan while selling us the idea of democratic Somaliland but you push their buttons on issues of SOOL and secession, their ugly qabyaalad like any other Somalis comes to town. I give him couple months to mellow down.

What did our dear friend XX used to say, dadkaa guuray dhulka.....

Now you are talking , i see what pains you , you couldn't attack the subject, refute the subject so instead you chose to piss around the push,

There was 2 territories that joined together and formed the SOMALI REPUBLIC not Somalia, you Kacaan kids always confuse the 2, its THE SOMALI REPUBLIC, now if you want SOMALIA thats the south and you are there already, now those 2 territories have chosen their own seprate ways, and its called "disolving the Union" , what you are calling secessionist is the so called SSC or Khaatumo, not Somaliland, been a Kacaan boy is a state of mind, it will take me time but iam willling to correct the privileged childern of the last regime.

Secessionists always join SOL fuming and foaming, but time and realty shapes them later, remember how XX used to repeatedly use the term Konfuurians, but now you even see him sometimes saying Haa aboo noo.;)

Haye Aadan soo daa bahasha, which habar is ontop these days?

Moon,

what possibly your ilk can do about somaliland?? its there by force, no amount of Saado squeal can change that fact, and no amount of Garaad travell can either, isn't easier for you Afweyne loyalist to accept facts if you can not either refute or change them?
