Somalia: Puntland President’s Delegation Returns to Ethiopia After Attending Istanbul Conference

A delegation led by the President of Puntland State of Somalia H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Mohamud (Farole) returned to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on the night of 4 June 2012 after attending the Istanbul Conference II on Somalia. The President’s delegation includes Interior Minister H.E. Abdullahi Ahmed Jama (Ilkajir) and Education Minister H.E. Abdi Farah Saeed (Juha).

The Puntland Government delegation attended the Istanbul Conference II on Somalia (31 May 2012 – 1 June 2012) after the Turkish Government prepared separate arrangements for a large delegation of consisting of government officials, traditional elders, and civil society and private sector representatives from Puntland and Galmudug.

The Istanbul Conference II on Somalia concluded by supporting the Roadmap process and the signed agreements towards the constitutional process and the end of transition in Somalia – Garowe Principles I & II, Galkayo Principles, and the Addis Ababa Communiqué of 23 May 2012.

The Puntland Government delegation engaged in fruitful meetings and discussions with senior diplomats and representatives from the U.N., the U.S., the U.K., the E.U., Italy, U.A.E., Kenya, Germany, Australia, Kuwait, Turkey, and other countries.
