how can you tell the difference?

inan=girl

inan=boy ( both r spelt same way but can tell in spoken language.)

 

dameer=male donkey

dameer=female donkey (they also have different pronounciation when spoken).

 

beer=Liver

beer=grow (i.e grow a tree)

 

Jir=heavy rain

Jiir=rat

 

Dad=people

Daad=flood

 

run=truth

ruun=ladies name.

 

Did=flee in fear(geelii did)

Diid=refuse

 

Tiir=pillar

Tiin=kind o tree

 

udub=pillar

udug=nice scent

 

rag=men

raag=be late

Alright, Attention! Can you all please read my first post before you just post in this thread (As some people have went off). Lets try to follow the rules. You have to post the English meaning of the Somali word the person prior you posted, followed up with a new Somali word so the next person can continue the game with a new answer. Easy Peasy!=)

 

Since I answered Macalinka's post it's now my turn to post a Somali word.

Nope..I think a better translation would be

Bashbash iyo barwaaqo = Abundance and prosperity, or ,Abundance and plenty..

hebel wuu haaray means wuu falisay, kicid. may be the word has more than one meaning then. homonyms

 

i hope we are not discussing the difference in the meaning of some Somali words like dooro which means baaro to some and digaag(chicken) to others.

Kabteey Bilataa = A game that kids play (I don't know the exact name in English). basically it's played by two teams and a referee will throw a shoe in the air......................It's fun but very aggressive game,,,:D
