Liqaye Posted June 8, 2004 Bismillahi rahmani rahim. This is a call for everyone to voice their opinions on this matter so that we may all benefit from the disscusion. On e-bay there are hand made shikr beads with prices starting from $100. Before a person shells out some cahs on these things, should we not ask our selves this question Is the practice acceptable as illustrated by the quran, the sunnat and the the practice of the ashabah and the salih? Or is it a Bid'ah in islam to use them ? Thanking you in advance.
Blessed Posted June 8, 2004 It is bidcah. The Prophet (saw) used his fingers to make dikr, thats the sunnah. During the time of the Prophet (saw) the beads were used by the Catholic Priests (and still is). So it isn't a new invetion but rather a new addition to Islamic worship. There is also another hadeeth, were Umar (ra) came upon a group of Muslims who were making their tasbeeh and counting it with rocks - he asked them what they were doing and when they told him, he reminded that is is not from the Sunnah.... (I'll post the hadeeth when I get it). Basically, we have an authentic sunnah, which is to use your fingers to say tasbeex - why leave it from some parctice of polytheists?
