Liban Posted May 29, 2012 Early pitfalls of Istanbul Conference; Self interest groups leading the conference “The Istanbul gathering of civil society conference brings together about 300 diverse members from all walks of life” .Puntlandi receives agendas and participants of Istanbul conference for Somalia including the panels , committees and speakers at the conference. It has been mentioned the participants are 300 members, 135 are Somali elders and the remaining 165 are academia, intellectuals, and professors. What has been said about participants is different from reality. The people gathered at Istanbul conference include , Former Islamic Courts Union members, Aala-Sheikh group, anti Puntland elements, anti federalism groups, and normal people who have not even have secondary school degrees. It is apparent that the main theme of Istanbul conference which previously was about transitional period, and Roadmap but it seems all big topics are given very less priority. The process of the roadmap, and the transitional processes have been continuing for long time and it is the final moments of implementing the all agreed principles in London conference, Garowe I and II and Galkayo Summit . Istanbul conference would not be different from previous conferences held in Djabouti, Egypt, Kenya and Addis Ababa, if there were not clear and concrete agendas following London Somali Conference. The absence of stakeholders including, Puntland and Galmudug could negatively affect the conference. Decisions require implementation and execution. Somalia Stakeholders or Roadmap signatories can have their positive contribution on the conference. Turkey may have an open minded vision from Somalia , but Somali people who involve in agenda setting are specific groups . People argue that Agendas and participants were both violated, so Puntland government has taken a superior decision not to attend the conference until errors are corrected. Puntland government , along with Galmudug state and Ehlu Sunna boycotted Istanbul II Somali Conference .

Liban Posted May 29, 2012 I think this istanbul conference is filled with political cheerleaders who are dying for the spot light and their time to shine. Same type of people who declare that they are the new president of the many self declared maamul gobleed somewhere in somalia, remember we had so many of those. Civil Society groups are the same type of breed. This breed could be identified by their fake titles such as engineer, doctor, professor and yeah the most abused the military title. Furthermore, this group also could be identified by opposing to any existing leadership in Somalia as they always feel they can do better and there is always some problem with the leadership. So, the cure is to give them the leadership. Then, they are also no good as a newer breed always rises to play the new haters or opposition role. In short, that is the type of scenario taking place in Turkey. TFG leadership and their Haters disguised as Civil Society Groups.
