That was the beginning of the end of the Somali regime. The end of the second strongest army in Africa. The end of the dictatorship & Socialism in Somaliland and Somalia. Those were simple Somali soldiers serving for a paycheck to feed their families. Remember this is the same Somali military that destroyed the entire imperial army of Ethiopia to the point that the Soviet Union had to rebuild a whole new one, yet they never showed the same passion when facing their own. The same military that mass-defected once they were given orders to kill their own blood, the same military whose entire airforce with the strongest airstrike capability crashlanded in the Red Sea, Djibouti, Kenya, Indian Ocean and Italy when they were ordered to bomb their own blood. To say you taught the 'Somali army' a lesson is tantamount to cutting off your left hand with your right, and proclaim you taught that hand a lesson. The Somali military destroyed the Somali military.
burahadeer Posted May 28, 2012 ^^^ not true, the somali army destroyed the north and they were in turn destroyed by the SNM. There were some defections from siyad's army who refuse to kill otha somalis but were indeed & very truthfully few..could be counted( not even a 100). Blessed Posted May 28, 2012 Lander, Whose being apologetic? There was a period of tribal (including between brotherly sub-clans), this was acknowledged and forgiven by all the parties involved, for me shirkii Ceerigaabo, Burco iyo Borame were my proudest moments as a person of SL. Our people were able to get out of a potentially destructive phase because they were honest with each other and willing to forgive and work together for their common good, this is something unfortunately that is lacking today. The target was only those with Military uniforms regardless of their type, Military, police, ect. It is probably the other way round and those were killed by the government thinking they are the rebels. All I know was that they were killing indiscriminately. JB, probably miyaad tiri.
