Somalicentric Posted April 25, 2012 Hello my Dudes, & Dudettes Quick question, what does Somali Music mean to you? As in how does it shape your life (if it does at all) Is there a specific song/artist that you deeply resonate it? (if so attach it, w/a brief description please). I am trying to get a general idea/survey of how people identify/connect with Somali music. Obviously, all these questions are to help me in a research project I'm doing for a class. My general aim is to present Somalia in a different light, from the arts/entertainment angle. & Shall i mention i live in a tuulo, so this would help me very, very much as to eradicating some ignorant perceptions Peace, love and black supremacy! Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted April 25, 2012 Why did you choose this obscure subject as a school project? I am not sure any Soomaali would help you with this, since heesaha don't shape or pretty much resonate with their lives. Personally, I sometimes listen to heeso (and my laptop has 1,100 of videos and MP3s of Soomaali songs), but by no means does any hees shape my life. Perhaps wadani songs I respect might resonate and remind me the heydays of the country, still doesn't shape my life.

Thanks MMA, maybe my wording was a little strong... honestly any reaction whether deep or surface level to Somali music would be greatly appreciated. & the reason why i picked this broad topic is because (from a younger generation perspective) i have a different connection to Somali music than the older generation. I don't remember/know Somalia, not to get too sappy or anything but it is my form of literature/knowledge (hence epistemology).

Chimera Posted April 25, 2012 Listening to Somali Music is like tasting strawberries covered in cream through your ears. The classic pentatonic platform launches you into an outerspace of galactic melodies and cosmic voices that can only be described as angelic and extraterrestial. It has the power to turn a non-enthusiast of world-music into an addict, for Somali songs are like viagra-pills sustaining a life-long eargasm; a morphine that neutralizes your daily woes, and delivers a trance of everlasting joy, for as long as the song is playing. It should be illegal.

Juxa Posted April 25, 2012 I love Somali music, or used to it, actually bordering obsession. I love qaraami or old songs. My fav are old artist, such as tubeec, magool aun, hibo, abdinasir macalin, mooge, kinsi, amina abdillahi, etc somali songs cater all sort of moods, but i wont say a song can shape your life.
