I honestly think that's a better system for them. Democracy isn't fit to every society as it brings unnecessary drama. Let a council choose a leader and that leader chooses his cabinet.

Democracy is political idealogy however what framework do you suggest is the most conducive environment to implement such idealogy? Are you for centralism or federalism? Puntland is going ahead with it's plans to officially become a multi-party democracy. Puntlanders will go to the election booths in 2014 to elect their new president and mark the beginning of a new dawn for the greatest region in Somalia. All these known cowards on SOL will not change this monumental moment for the state and it's people.

I hope Puntland election is free and transparent. Corruption is only defeated by Good governance and it's about time good governance is implemented in Puntland especially in this critical journey with oil fields on the horizon!!!. I am puntlander through and through so help me god

There is a big difference between autonomy and federalism. The path currently being advocated in garowe now is one of autonomy. In a federal states there would be no need for puntland to have its own parties. In the sane world national parties would compete to fill state-level institutions. There seems to be a misunderstanding of The basics of democracy as well. In its purest form there is direct democracy where voters as individual people being the decision-makers. There is also in direct democracy where voters elect people to make decisions for them. What we have here is neither form. You can't call a democracy a system where no one elected the decision makers.

^^^^^^^^^^^ India has state and national political parties

If a party is recognised as a state party by the Election Commission, it can reserve a symbol for its exclusive use in the state.

i think this is the path/system that Garowe is try to bring to somalia. As for democracy, remember, every democratic state has it own version of democracy.

I'm afraid I will have to disagree with you, no you cannot have your own democracy. The very basic meaning of democracy is that the people be involved somehow either themselves or the representatives that they have elected. As far as party we seem to have a perverse understanding of that as well. Parties with percent ideologies such as conservative and liberal, secular or moderate or Socialist and so on. Parties are not Mintora percent clans or states. I don't know how they do things in India but if that's how they do it they're just as crazy as Somalis.
