STOIC Posted April 13, 2013 Che, I didn't say they signed anything but if you believe Somali government represent SomLiland then I think we will be going in circles.I doubt a government that represents you will be expecting you to clarify your relation with them in an International setting. Che -Guevara Posted April 13, 2013 Stoic...We need to clarify few things. The reality is Somalia has no physical control over Somaliland and Somaliland engages with everyone that is willingly to listen its cause but from legal perspective, Somaliland is part of Somalia and International Bodies and Governments around the world accept this fact hence in the international settings, Somaliland will not be be on equal footing with Somalia. The May London Conference is clear indication which way IC is leaning. Hassan is co-hosting the conference with Cameron and in this setting, the Government represents all Somalis,As stability takes hold in Mogadishu, all diplomatic efforts shift to Xamar and away from periphery. IC view these talks between Internationally recognized Government and separatist region, not two countries holding bilateral talks. Faisal Waraabe is one the people that mention the diplomatic dilemma facing Somalis. He advocates Somaliland should deal with embassies in Addis rather than those in Mogadishu. STOIC Posted April 13, 2013 Che, of course Somalia government is the legitimate recognized country, you will be blind to deny that. The equal footing am talking about is two separate bodies signing clarification of their relation. Now everybody knows Somalia is the sole legitimate government of what was original PRE-1991 Somalia but Also somLiland is region that seceded now if they were not equal footing in their clarification of their relation , Somaliland will have been told to tow the line or get sanctioned. But no they are enticed with concessions and clarification points.See how we going in circles...sorry for spelling typing from phone

Che -Guevara Posted April 13, 2013 Stoic...It really depends what the talks represent for each group. Somalia is seeking not clarification of a relationship, as far as it is concerned Somaliland is part of Somalia, a region with legitimate grievances that could be addressed within the context of these talks. Concessions will made as long as Somaliland stays within the union but Somalia will not agree to the ultimate concession., outright independence of Somaliland with the blessing of Mogadishu. They kicked the can down the road when it comes to sticky issue of independence.
Xaaji Xunjuf Posted April 13, 2013 Turkey’s Contribution to Efforts to Overcome Problems between Somalia and Somaliland 13.04.2013 President Abdullah Gül met with President Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia and President Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo of Somaliland at the Çankaya Presidential Palace. During the talk among the three Presidents, which was held at the invitation of Turkey, the “Ankara Communiqué”, which aims at overcoming the existing problems between the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Republic of Somaliland through dialogue, was signed. The three Presidents discussed how to overcome the current conflicts between Somalia and Somaliland, reviewed Turkey-Africa relations which have considerably gained momentum in recent years and tackled other regional issues during their talks which Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu also attended. This meeting between Presidents Gül, Mohamud and Silanyo is regarded as the first step toward the resolution of the existing problems between the two African countries by means of dialogue and good will. As part of this objective, the “Ankara Communiqué” was signed. The three Presidents underscored that Turkey’s contribution to this dialogue process between Somalia and Somaliland will continue and they also decided to hold another trilateral meeting in Istanbul within 90 days. President Mohamud of Somalia, who took office in September, 2012, had paid his first foreign visit to Turkey in December last year.
STOIC Posted April 13, 2013 Che, the issue of secession is the elephant in the room and it was not addressed and really don't know how they will be able to solve thAt in three months time..Somaliland will it stay in its course and no direct orders will be taken from Mogadishu.Things are the place they were since 1991.I don't understand how both sides can call this progresses if Anything this shows both sides are happy with the way the relation will be in the future...now what am interested to know is will Somaliland attend London meeting? I'm alsowaiting for our spin masters on both sides to come and dissect this direct fruitless meeting for us...for now it is business as usual and I think Amin arts captured it poignantly the game the public is mislead with.. STOIC Posted April 13, 2013 XAaji...you are enjoying the pictures...I just wanna tell them y'all MF better get along...too bad I can't walk on both men shoes but inshallah time will come when Somalis will find peace with each other
Che -Guevara Posted April 13, 2013 Stoic. This might all be for a show. I would say one thing, I don't think the current Somali Government will take the monumental decision of endorsing Somaliland. It does not represent the will of the Somali people as the country is in transition and it certainly does not have the means to implement anything it agrees to. For the spin doctors, this was a success.
Xaaji Xunjuf Posted April 13, 2013 Che but this is a permanent goverment not a transitional one it doesn't have much control on the ground domestically its still disorganized but its still regarded as the legitimate of government of Somalia. There is also a parliament and they have to approve what ever agreement the 2 sides agree on in the near future. The implementation on the ground will be a bit difficult but they still could agree, not saying SL and Somalia will agree any time soon but there is still a chance as long as the talking continues.
