Shinbir Majabe Posted March 25, 2012 Reports from Galgadud region in central Somalia indicate that Alshabab fighters deserted the strategic Ceelbuur district on Saturday afternoon, which was previously the largest Alshabab base in central Somalia. Residents in the Galgadud region confirmed to Somalia Report that hundreds of Alshabab fighters left the district along with their fighting vehicles, heading southwards. "I can confirm that Ceelbuur is empty and no one is in the district, but we have heard that ASWJ and Ethiopian troops are heading towards the district," Mohamed Osman, a local resident told to Somalia Report. Hundreds of Ethiopian troops with their military equipment have entered the region in the past day, and locals fear that they will suffer attacks if Alshabab insurgents are found in their area. ASWJ troops from the districts of Guriceel and Caabudwaaq, Xeraale, Balanballe and other districts have also reached Dhuusamareeb to reinforce the ASWJ forces already present. Abdiwali Siyad, an ASWJ senior official who spoke to the local media , vowed they will shortly attack the Ceelbuur district and other districts controlled by Alshabab, in an effort to end the hit and run attacks carried out by Alshabab. He also promised that they have planned to wipe out Alshabab from the whole Galgaduud region within a week. "our ASWJ fighters have captured large bases from Alshabab in Goddhurwaa and Ceelgaras. the militants have fled to Jacar and Bargaan, which are located in the eastern part of Galgaduud," he said. Alshabab has take off the air the pro Alshabab radio station in Ceelbuur, and have evacuated all their equipment. On Tuesday, Alshabab fighters briefly took control of Dhuusamareeb district after heavy fighting, and though it was recaptured from them, the fighting caused damaged morale amongst for ASWJ. Sheikh Aden Farey, an Alshabab commander in the Galgaduud region told a pro Alshabab radio station that their forces in the region are ready to confront the Ethiopian troops. "Those forces who come from Ethiopian Christian government have entered in the district of Dhuusamareeb. Although they entered and have prepared themselves, but we will defeat the," said Sheikh Farey. The Ethiopian forces inside Somalia have already captured the towns of Baydhabo, Baladwayne and Xudur, which were all previous Alshabab bases in southern and central Somalia. Abdiwali Siyad, the ASWJ official, said ASWJ had met with senior official of the Ethiopian troops and they were working hand in hand in the fight against Alshabab, whom he described as a threat to the security of the region.
