Carafaat Posted March 9, 2012 I have travelled quite extensively through the Somali penisula for a period of 2 years. Visiting Ethiopia, Somaliland, Somalia and Kenya. And spend some time in cities like Hargeysa, Borama, Berbera, Jigjiga, Burco, Erigavo, Bosasso and Garowe. What I have noticed in all of these cities and regions is that they are much more divers(clan wise) then one might think. In fact I dare to state that the clans or sub-clans that consider a particular region of city as 'theirs' are most of the time a minority and most of the inhabitants are not considered as 'deegaan'. Business and Politics are mostly dominted by those few claiming a region/city, but a silent majority excist everywhere that dont openly claim their city and even accepted that they are a "minority" while they might be divers but certainly form a majority, a silent majority. I wonder if others have observed this as well? How come that a majority still keeps silent and even regard themselves as minority? And what can we to change this? It's a form of injustice to be denied the same rights as others. For example, cheap or land for free, bsusiness contracts, educational opportunities of scholarships, goverment and ngo jobs and maybe even have less right before a court or other institutions. Shouldnt everyone have the same rights everywhere? would state that
Alpha Blondy Posted March 9, 2012 i agree in principle. there is elitism developing here and i worry that 10 yrs from there will be tiny elite not only controlling the factors of production but also the politics of development too. having said that, a society has to organised and there must be hierarchies! these hierarchies are based on interests and tribe no longer determines the power dynamics. this i believe is to be welcomed. would be interesting to see how this occurs. Carafaat Posted March 9, 2012 Alpha, you are talking about a new economic elitist class on top of already existing dominating clan elite. The sad thing is that some are abusing our clan s name to dominate Berbera. While majority of the population is politicly and economicly and clan wise marginalised and they might even form a majority together. Very worrying.
