kingofkings Posted February 28, 2012 A cargo truck carrying small arms including AK47 assault rifles and light machine guns was confiscated at a checkpoint in the busy port city of Bosaso in Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland region on Sunday reported security officials. The truck was subject to a search after local security forces at a checkpoint became suspicious of the driver, who offered them bribes to enter the city. The truck is suspected to have originated from the central regions of somalia and was heading to the port city Bosaso at the gulf Aden. Puntland has tightened security after the militants of Said Atam hiding in the Galgala mountains recently declared their allegiance to Al-Qaeda and vowed to destroy Puntland from within. Al-Shabaab fighters are reportedly fleeing north after losing key areas to AMISOM and Somali TFG forces in the south of the country and are suspected of attempting to open a second front in the peaceful northern areas of Puntland. Militants have been unsuccessful in their attempts at destabilising Puntland and have been no match for the regional security forces. Puntland security minister Khalif Issa Mudan reported that the operations against militants and pirates will continue and that state security forces are ready for any challenge. http://dissidentnation.com/
