UK wants Somali Oil

Recommended Posts

Yet it is the extent of oil deposits beneath the Indian Ocean that is most exciting Somali officials. One said the potential was comparable to that of Kuwait, which has more than 100bn barrels of proven oil reserves. If true, the deposits would eclipse Nigeria's reserves – 37.2bn barrels – and make Somalia the seventh largest oil-rich nation.

100bn barrels that's insane

Someone told me, I don't know if it's true... that for every one Dollar of aid the West puts in Africa, they make 9 Dollars.

Thanks for the update.

Very interesting indeed. The dots are slowly connecting.

Abdulkadir Abdi Hashi, minister for international cooperation in Puntland, north-east Somalia – where the first oil is expected to be extracted next month – said: "We have spoken to a number of UK officials, some have offered to help us with the future management of oil revenues. They will help us build our capacity to maximise future earnings from the oil industry."

Looks like Puntland is busy under the radar. Where are the Guru and NGONGE?

These oil figures are all over the place. One article says 19 billion barrels, this article says 100 billion and the new Reuters articles cites a lowly 300 million barrels.

"Africa Oil and its partners in the two Puntland licences, Australia's Red Emperor and Range Resources, are targeting prospective resources of over 300 million barrels of recoverable oil."

Which is it?

They trying secure some investments when they put aid in Africa , it's either helping dictator come to power or they are doing

something behind doors. No one gives aid for free in this world. Uk is trying to get closer to Somali politicians so letter they get fair

deal of natural resources or have some influence what will come out of this new era in somalia

It doesn't matter, the numbers are still impressive!! This probably includes off-shore drilling near the Socotra islands.

But is there anything going on in the Indian ocean besides the pirates and the massive fishing by Asian countries

Once we get our Navy back, we can lock up these foreign trawlers depleting fish of our coast, legitimately

Hashi, in charge of brokering deals for the region's oil reserves, also said Somalia was looking to BP as the partner they wanted to "help us explore and build our oil capacity". He added: "We need those with the necessary technical knowhow, we plan to talk to BP at the right time."

An exploration contract with BP would help elevate the search for oil off the Somali coast. BP has huge technical resources in deep sea drilling.

Like Mozambique, I believe the sea south of Mogadishu to Ras Kamboni holds vast sums of gas reserves.:D

:D

Gas is cheap. It is everywhere. We need to tap into the black gold underneath the Indian Ocean.
