Modesty Posted December 5, 2003 Asalaamu ALaykum, Ok, I've noticed that in our Somali culture, it seems ok to dress a certain way when we attend wedding,or new year's bashes, but in everyday life it's not okay. For example, I've seen xijabi sisters who talking to them would come across as never 'will take off my hijab' wear gaalo dress (no hijab) when they go to aroos and New Year parties, when asked why? They say 'well this is a aroos.' Why are there double standards? P.S. THis is an Islamic topic so 'moderators' don't move it from the Islam forum. Qac Qaac Posted December 6, 2003 first of all to start off, as a muslims we don't celebrate new years, we only celebrate the two eids, we just had one al-xamdulilah, and the 2nd one around the corner. to come back to your other pt, the girls who take off their hijab for parties, whose their excuse is it is because it is aroos, well they doing it because of calture, islam, is a way of life, and whould be fellowed by it is teachings day and night, ramadan or no ramadan, new year or no new year, every time. no bending the laws like most of our ppl do.
