Carafaat Posted February 1, 2012 Back in 1960 when Somalilanders decided to join Somalia in a Union, they were not prebared, did not have their own systems of governance and were driven by emotions of Unity and Somalinimo. Leading to dissapointments. Today, sixty years later Somalilanders have a democracy, laws, a system of governance and much better prebared for any deal that is in the interest of the people. Just like they deal with Ethiopia, foreign donors, Djibouti, etc. But again they are driven by emotions, this time those emotions driven them away from any political engagement with Somalia. Somalia and Somali's are no wives you can divorce and leave. Rather we are brothers who need eachother and this time its Somaliland who should show political maturity and be the bigger man. We need men like Carafaat to keep pushing for dialogue instead of isolation. People forgot when Abdirashid was President and Egal was the Prime Minister, Somalia was respected and was considered an upcoming young democracy. Somalis were on their way of managing the cursed clan system if the dictatorship of Said Barre did not interrupt it.
Carafaat Posted February 1, 2012 Qaranki, the people were not ready to first rationally look at their interest, discuss and identify teir objectives, framework for the Union. When some politicians suggested to not rush with Union and first discuss, they were silenced and people wanted the uncondtional union. Egal (aun) who once was speeching to the Somaliland delegation who went to Xamar before union, raised this point and they silenced him by trowing a coke bottle to his head. As they regarded his suggestion of conditionality as opposing their will for a Union. Today, when someone raises suggests any linkage, cooperation or union, he is treated the same way.
