Mineapolis:- Thousands of Somali American in State of Minnesota welcomed the birth of the Khatumo State of Somalia,

 

 

On Saturday, January 28th, 2012. All segment of the community gathered at Convention Center of Minneapolis to cheer for the newly founded State of Khatumo. The territorial of Khatumo State consist of Sool, Sanaag, and Ayn regions of Somalia.

 

 

This celebration was also attended by US public elected officials including the Vice President of Minneapolis City Council Honorable Robert Lilligren, Mr. Erick Garcia Luna representatives from U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar Office, along with, Congresswomen Karen Clark of Minnesota House of Representative. The elected officials showed support and congratulated the people of Khatumo State for establishing this new state.

 

The Somali American community leaders delivered speeches to the crowd and highlighted the importance of establishment of the state. Dr. Saeed Fahia, the Executive Director of Confederation Somali Community in Minnesota pointed out what this state stands for and said “Khatumo State stands for unity of Somali Republic and have no desire to separate from the country." Dr. Fahia added to that, Khatumo was founded by highly educated people who are capable of establishing this kind of institution or beyond, therefore Khatumo State will succeed"

 

The TFG's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hamid Ali Masheye was one of the guest speakers and he noted that the federal government of Somalia welcomed warmly the birth of Khatumo State as one of the states who will become under the Federal Government of Somalia. Mr. Masheye stressed that the creation of Khatumo State is a constitutional, according to Somali Republic Charter.

 

Mr. Abdirashid Farah was one the delegates who participated the conference of Khatumo in Taleh, he reported the process of creation Khatumo State and he highlighted “Khatumo conference took place in the historical city of Taleh between December 26, to January 15, 2012. and 345 delegates who attended this conference represented all segments of the *********** clan including, traditional leaders, academician, youth, and women." Mr. Farah also mentioned that over 3000 guests were present this historic conference and supported the outcome of the conference.

 

Mr. Farah talked about what was the need that caused Khatumo State to be created, he said " After 20 years of waiting of central government, the community of these three regions realized their people are suffering enough as a result of absence of government and decided to declare Regional Autonomy and the administration of Khatumo will provide basics of human needs for their people and shall improve education, health, and clean water for Khatumo Regions.

 

Khatumo State is the newest formed state of Somalia and widely Somalis around the globe have celebrated the birth of this state. The uniqueness of this state is having slogans “One Nation, One People, Under one flag –the blue one” not seeking separation from the rest of the country like the secessionist group called themselves Somaliland. Khatumo State is part and parcel of Somali Republic and it stands for peace and unity for all.
