Dr_Osman Posted January 29, 2012 I think it is safe to say lets have an early oil party. Drilling campaign is under-way on a 90 day program, Oil storage facilities constructed at Bosaso(which indicates their expecting oil), shares have skyrocketed for range resources which indicates the larger world also believes that to be the case, farole is being harrassed at dubai by various representatives of nations asking for tendering contracts for construction of Puntland roads, residential and commercial projects and the mere fact that $50-100 million has already been spent on the exploration phase by oil companies can give anyone the peace of mind that the state is going to be oil-producer. Some people say that Puntland may turn into a dubai model of beautiful cities, or could turn into failed model like nigeria. These morons dont take into consideration firstly puntland and nigeria culturally are nothing alike, In Puntland the people who built the state are local actors and traditional elders, the state belongs to them they created it not rebel groups, not murderers, not dictators. This state has succeeded because it originates from good source a peaceful source traditional elders very similar to the gulf regions with their traditional elders. Puntland doesnt accept dictatorship as we all can look back on history on what happened between abdullahi yusuf and jamac ali jamac/cade muse wars. I believe no one man is going to own the oil in Puntland and it will be traditional elders who will play a key role in making sure it is used to for the right purposes just like they solve water well conflicts if an oil well conflict occurs you can imagine the same process being followed. After keeping all that in mind their is no-way someone can walk away and think Puntland is not going be oil-rich state!!! Only someone living in another world like mariam who doesnt watch al-jazeera or bbc and lives in a cave can only possibly have this frame-work of thinking. Dr_Osman Posted January 29, 2012 Just to update you, I spoke my dad about this issue and he said "son the isims were advised when cade muse started this project as they were worried it may cause conflicts, cade muse showed the isims a picture of dubai and said your cities will be like this if this oil project happens and it is you the isims who have managed the state in all its conflicts will also play key role in the oil management" thats when the isims accepted it and gave the green-light to the project. Didnt u hear range resource say 'we have local support from community and elders and this would not be possible without them" go back to the speeches of the daror oil opening on garoweonline. So its very important assessing Puntland to ignore the isims is to ignore the foundation the whole state is built upon, without them Puntland cannot exist. If those guys tell their clan men to pull out of Puntland all of them at the same time its over for puntland. Thats the sort of impact they have
Dr_Osman Posted January 29, 2012 The traditional elders have very strong foundation in Puntland like other gulf regions. So if Puntland is following any model it wont be nigeria's its not the same system, the isims are very powerful in Puntland where-as their counterparts in mogadishu and hargeisa are weak or even non-existent. Puntland even historically follows a very traditional boqortoyo system, with garaads, ugaas, malak, beeldaajes, suldans representing their communities which is more identical to dubai then nigeria!!! So its safe to say Puntland is taking a gulf-state model and even when pland becomes multi-party democracy it will be more of a show for the outside world to garner more support for the region, but on the ground the isims will always be the backbone
Timur Posted January 29, 2012 I have researched all of this, Dr_Osman, and you are absolutely right, those are oil storage tanks, and they are quite common, but in the case of Bosaso, they are definitely destined for immediate export.

Yeah I researched it also, Their going to export early on and use those funds to fund infrastructure building early on, then all the commercial giants will come on-board and hundreds of oil wells be drilled through-out the region. The exploration area is the size of taiwan so you can imagine how many oil wells their will be and pipelines. Yeah those oil tankers are for quick impact cash injection into the puntland govt to fund mammoth infrastructure building so more oil can be developed, airports, ports, roads can be constructed. Once those vital infrastructure is in place then more oil development can occur like offshore drilling, more well drilled in nogal-daror basin and getting concessions rights under-way for mudug. Mineral development projects in bari/sanaag mountains. Those fund will inject alot more into the economy and investors will do the rest with alot of the diaspora returning investing, foreign companies investing. The state will be in industrial boom
