Archdemos Posted January 27, 2012 This is quite scary, phenomenal coding.
Archdemos Posted January 27, 2012 Ralph Langner at Ted, was Siemens involved in anyway?
ElPunto Posted January 27, 2012 ^Watched the first video. Actually it's a good development for smaller and poorer nations. Now you don't need billions upon billions to buy state of the art aircraft and other weaponry to wage war or to defend yourself against one - all you need is a team of dedicated hackers. Archdemos Posted January 27, 2012 True, but its consequences is far reaching. From causing traffic mayhem to potentially causing reactor meltdowns. Its also true to say that it has pluralised warfare to a certain extent, but still those countries with the most resources will be able to attract and amass the most talented folks. USA already has a cyber army of 10,000+, the largest in the world. Who else can compete with that.
ElPunto Posted January 27, 2012 ^You're right to a degree about resources attracting talent but you completely forget about ideology as a factor. Let's say you're the best hacker in the world - would you work for the Mossad even if they offered you tens of millions - I don't think so. With cyber warfare - all you need is talent and to a degree resources. Even if talent is amoral - you can probably buy a lot more talent than the couple of planes you could get for a billion dollars. Speaking of which - did you hear about the 30 billion dollar Saudi arms deal with the US - could have bought a lot of hackers. Caku carab.
Archdemos Posted January 27, 2012 Yeah i never quite understood the logic of SA and other Arab countries who spend $$ on tanks and other outdated modes. i mean come on Tanks...how obsolete are they in today's battlefield. It will be interesting to see how all of this evolves. Have you been reading about the cyber attacks between Israeli and Palestinian. Old wars new dimensions. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/288102/20120126/israel-palestine-cyberwar-hacker-anonymous-0xomar.htm http://www.haaretz.com/news/national/pro-palestinian-hackers-apologize-for-bringing-down-haaretz-s-hebrew-website-1.409563
ElPunto Posted January 27, 2012 ^Interesting - but it seems more of a nuisance attempt rather than doing any real damage. The other thing is the anonymity factor. If next week a small group of ppl in the US attacked the US through cyber warfare - whom will the US retaliate against? The options are severly limited. The Zack Posted January 28, 2012 Stuxnet was primarily created by the US Government and Israel hence its powerfulness. It wasn't a random attack. It wasn't even on the net, it was strictly on thumbs.
Macallinka Posted January 28, 2012 ^ Did the Stuxnet attack happened for real or its just a fiction ?
Jacaylbaro Posted January 28, 2012 So it actually means someone to spend more time on the computer in order to join the cyber warfare .... and be a strong army there
Bluelicious Posted January 30, 2012 That's fascinating but also scary. Virus developers are becoming more smarter each time the technology improves the world is doomed if that STUXNET is really that poweful and not detectable.
