Abwaan Posted January 25, 2012 Both....and it depends on where in Africa. Good for the economy in general and bad for countries that are ruled by dictators. China does not care about human rights and will even support the dictator if it has to! They helped Sri Lanka to get rid off the Tamil Tigers, a very powerful rebel group who even had jets that could attack the capital...lol. I guess they are history now. Sensei Posted January 25, 2012 You should watch the above doc. China's presence is as complex as the country itself. With China you get a mixed bag of the good, fast boom and development; the bad, corruption and displacement of the local labor. In Dar-a-Salam, you will see Chinese vendors on the street, or so I was told.

Macallinka Posted January 26, 2012 ^Theater-kana ku dar, plus one or two hospitals (am not sure which one they are). China did more for us compared both the Italians and the English. Abwan is also right to some extent, countries will benefit more if they have strong government who can negotiate well with them. But overall they are better than the IMF loans and the few aid programs that the western countries give to Africa.
Alderman Posted January 26, 2012 @Macallinka Italians actually urbanized large parts of Southern Somalia by building roads, dams, schools, towns, agricultural settlements etc. Just imagine if the Italians had stayed beyond the Second World War, Somalia would have become a First World country by now. Alderman I think by looking at the period of time that both countries had relations with Somalia, China was better. Yes, the corrupted Italians helped Somalia but they also interfered the country's politics or were bias to one group of leaders and also benefited it from our wealth for instance agriculture.
