Government promises to develop sporting activities

 

President Silanyo intends to develop sport activities

 

Hargeisa, January 8, 2012 - The government of Somaliland is determined in the development of Sporting activities nationwide. This was revealed by President Ahmed Mahmoud Silanyo during a meeting with Mr. Jama Mahmoud Aden renowned Somaliland long distance runner who plies his trade in the Middle East country of Qatar.

President Silanyo revealed that it is part of his government’s strategy to developed multi-disciplinary sporting activities not only to provide an opportunity for the country’s youth to enhance their talents but as deterrence to the ever increasing illegal immigration.

The head of state cited the recent regional sports championship held in Burao as a prelude to further developments and events to be organized by his administration under the ministry of youth, sports and culture.

 

President Silanyo commended athlete Jama M Aden “Karaain’ for having scooped over 800 athletics awards and the successful completion of a coaching course conducted by the Asian confederation.

“You are role model for the country’s youth and your visit will increase the desire to emulate you and others like London based 5,000 meters Mo Farah” Said Silanyo.

At the same time, residents of Hargeisa gave a tumultuous welcome to the minister of Youth, sports and Culture Mr. Abdi Saeed Fahiye, who returned from where the regional sports championship were hosted.
