Jacaylbaro Posted January 3, 2012 A 28-year-old man from the Netherlands has been arrested near the German city of Oldenburg for transporting 1,700 kilos of khat plants in a rented van. German police have confiscated the plants, which have an estimated street value of around 100,000 euros. Khat is legal in the Netherlands but is banned in neighbouring countries. It is mainly used by members of the Somali and Yemeni communities. Users chew the tops and leaves of the plant, which act as a stimulant and suppress tiredness and hunger. © Radio Netherlands Worldwide

So even though it's illegal in Germany there still remains a market where one can make 100,000 euros from one trip? 1.7 tons! It is not the same becuase there is no ban in Holland & the UK (though the number of addicts isn't that much different to those in Germany, unless the man was eating it all himself). Thats a small market if 1.7 tonnes of qaad gets you 100k Euros. The cost of each bundle will be high cos it's ILLEGAL dee I doubt German Somalis have the same family/community issues effecting UK Somalis (in relation to qaad) BECAUSE OF the ban. Wax fahan. NGONGE Posted January 3, 2012 ^^ Doubt is not good enough for you to call for a ban. Wax fahan.

Bluelicious Posted January 3, 2012 What a greedy man was selling in Holland not enough for him. Did he not know it was illegal in Germany. They should ban khat and make it illegal in Holland and the UK, it's doing more harm and damage then good to the Somalis
