Jacaylbaro Posted January 2, 2012 The Oromo Liberation Front (the OLF) National Council has held its historic meeting on December 30 and 31, 2011. The OLF National Council has examined all aspects of the Oromo peoples’ struggle; the political program of the OLF; the current conditions of the Ethiopian peoples under the dictatorship of Meles Zenewi; and the importance of working with all democratic forces in Ethiopian to end the suffering. The OLF National Council also focused on the timely demand of working with other democratic forces in forming the new Ethiopia that will guarantee and protect the fundamental rights of all peoples in Ethiopia. The new social contract will & should be based on the free will and consent of all peoples in Ethiopia. The previous style that claims “I know for you” should be abolished and replaced with a new vision that is based on peoples' consent and free will. To fulfill this vision and play crucial roles, not only for the Oromo people, but for all Ethiopian people, the OLF National Council pursuant to the power vested to it by the OLF National Congress effectively amended the OLF political program today, January 1, 2012. The New OLF political program will accept the new federal democratic republic of Ethiopia that will work for the betterment of all of its citizens, neighboring countries and international communities. Informing the new federal democratic republic of Ethiopia, the OLF will respect and honor all decisions the Ethiopian peoples will make using their right of self-determination. Therefore, we call upon all Oromo political forces and others forces in Ethiopia to join us to implement this new vision. The OLF National Council also appeals to International Community to stop supporting the dictatorship of Meles Zenewi’s regime that has engaged in terrorizing the Ethiopian people, selling the precious resources of the country to the highest bidders, and the government that does not respect the principles of democracy, human rights and rule of law. Jacaylbaro Posted January 5, 2012 Ethiopian separatist group gives up secession demand January 4, 2012 (ADDIS ABABA) - Ethiopian rebel group, the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), which has been fighting to gain autonomy for the Oromoia region said it is no longer demanding independence from the Horn of Africa’s nation. The surprise move comes after almost four decades of struggle for the separation of the vast southern region. The OLF have vowed to work for unity and freedom for the whole of Ethiopia, not just the Oromo people. In a statement the OLF said “it will accept the new federal democratic republic of Ethiopia that will work for the betterment of all of its citizens, neighbouring countries and international communities”. The Ethiopian government blames the OLF for over 106 deadly attacks on its territory. The group was among the five domestic and international groups designated as terrorist entities by the Ethiopian government in June 2011. Other local political organisations labelled as terrorists were the ****** National Liberation Front (ONLF), and Ginbot 7. The Al-Qaeda linked Somali Islamic militants Al-Shabab and the international terror network, Al-Qaeda itself were also placed in the country’s terror list. The move by OLF is seen as a major step forward in journey to national reconciliation but some are questioning its authenticity. There has been no official reaction from the Ethiopian government toward OLF’s decision. However, it is unlikely that Addis Ababa will readily change its stance towards the rebel movement. Ethiopia has accused neighbouring Eritrea of arming and financing rebels such as the OLF and ONLF, an allegation that Asmara denies.
Xaaji Xunjuf Posted January 5, 2012 Oromo is a large Ethnic group they should be able to rule Ethiopia instead of trying to break away from it.
Leezu Posted January 5, 2012 ^Why should they rule people who dont want to be ruled by them, better secede with only their own ethnic group. Europe model for East Africa is needed, ethnic group = one country. They have religious issues, but even if they SAY that they will try to make Ethiopia more democratic that means that they want to be able to exercise the article for selfdetermination... So they can still secede.
