Che, Stability and prosperity in Somaliland came only after the secession has been declared. Somaliland will have been bewildered with array of disappointment had they stayed with union upto today.Somaliland people are of course the steward in charge of the wellbeing of their nation and they have decided to part ways with the rest of the country. The trend toward two-tierd countries is what that is motivating them today so to dismiss that will be unfair....As for making assumptions on the intentions of anti-secesionists we both know that in this roller-coaster sequence of ups and downs of Somali poltics we see many that post here are either motivated by shear ********* of clanism or genuine principle of belief in a union (this is on both sides)...

And to dismiss the views of those within the Former British Somaliland that don't share the idea of secession is unfair. It's clear secession is not shared by those on the periphery namely tribes on the west and east. It's also clear despite the attempt to present Somaliland as democratic nation, the support or the opposition to secession is along tribal lines.

Do you think it's difficult case to make in equating secession with stability? After-all, Puntland is relatively stable despite sharing borders with more unstable regions.

JB.....Bal let's give it a shot.

A lot of brainwashing has been going on, for some extreme secession union means destruction , they blindly support the idea of secession, and without consideration deny those who are against , but live in the former British Somaliland. the other reason they deny it is cuz without formar British SL borders as bases, they know they have little chance for their clannish agenda. and then there are few, usually from diaspora, who are naive and think there is some kind of real democracy in SL.

But i am sure secession will not succeeds for this reason. Few opportunists in SL led the secession idea and denied the rest of the population to hear or excise any other political opportunities.

Che,

To equate the political institution in puntland with Somaliland is to ignore the pudding in the eating.Somaliland democratic government has fostered a relatively high degree of hospitable environment for democracy. The evidence should be overwhelming by now that Somalilnd has far superior democracy than Puntland. For one thing we can't ignore the clan history of the north. There is an issue of inclusiveness which some are against it, but all this is part of the unfinished journey Somaliland has embarked on.The advantage of them joining Somaliland mirrors the disadvantage of them joining a non-functioning government in the south. It is obvious then that all the resisting pockets should know whats good for them and that will be Somaliland (IMO)

Stoic-Again you seem to be confusing stability with the consent of all local tribes with institutionalized democracy. And really, what advantages are there for those opposing secession in joining Somaliland....I meant real socioeconomic advantages, something more than exercising casting votes?

There's no clear indication that someone living in Boroma has anyone socioeconomic advantages than say someone living in Bosaso, Kismayo or even Xamar.. The only difference is this perceived democracy punctuated by stability thanks largely due to the consent of all northern tribes.

How am I confusing Stability with institutional democracy.Institutional democracy can't happen without stability. It is things like respect for a constitution that provide a stability for the basic democratic institutions.I can argue that it is the respect of this political institutions that brings stability.A neutrality of these institutions is what motivates the citizens of Borama unlike places like Puntland that has been havocked with killing of high officials in a daylight. This institutions if not safeguarded and respected you will NOT get transparency.I understand it is the allegiance among citizens in Somaliland that brings the stability, but if it wasn't for the respect of the law there would have been no Stable Somaliland. So you gotta give credit to the institution that has been built by the people of Somaliland.

The message to the separatists is: EVERY THING IS DIVISIBLE. When you want your separation from Somalia, expect others to want to separate from you. It is happening in Eritrea as well with the Afars. There is no homogenous society anywhere. You have to learn to live with your differences in the old Somalia.

This stability and peace they often talk about is not happening outside of the triangle.Even there, its the elders who are keeping the clans from each other's throat.

Thankful

Where is our secessionists friends? It's strange that they have avoided this thread. I've seen them posting on other threads today. Also, I am certain all have visited this thread and watched the iconic video's.

It's beyond interesting how the same people who reside from the Hargeysa - Burco - Berbera triangle are the ones that post the most negative news coming from Puntland and the TFG. However, are now the ones that are avoiding this thread or are unable to contribute anything meaningful?

Guys dont hide, I know you may be in shock right and can't muster up any words.

I guess you have all come to the decision that it is best to stay quiet and hope the news dies down.

Last week Erigavo, now Borama, what's next?

Jacaylbaro is a lone soldier these days . Even Xaji Xunjuf has lost the plot, and NGONGE has too many constraints to overcome to be effective in the propaganda game. The only hope Jacayl has is the new greens he graduated from the Hargeysa school, and if buuradeer is any measure Jacayl's investment in there is not fairing better either
