How to adress girls from diffrent Somali regions? Abaayo, Huuno, etc.

I was wondering how to adress Somali girls from diffrent regions. For example;

 

I know in Djibouti they say - Huuno

 

In Somaliland its mostly- Walaalo

 

And in Somalia its - Abaayo

 

How are Somali girls from Kenya adressed- Sisi?

 

And where is Gacaliye used?

I prefer abaayo or aboowe over the other words. Huuno sounds as if your babying someone imagine using it for a stranger. Walalo somehow reminds me of siblings because of the word walal being used in it therefore it's also a bit weird using it for strangers or strangers using it to you. You will never hear those words out of my mouth lol :eek:

I say walaalo half the time and I am not from somaliland. But rather laascaanod, Somalia ..

 

The other half the time I say huuno (it is a word I recently stuck with) and I am loving it ...

 

And for some reason I dnt really say abaayo or aboowe (bt those are sweet words I must admit)..if a guy says abaayo to me horta waan ka helaa..I just dnt see myself going aboowe though lool

wouldnt use huuno.I find it strange that sometimes even guys call eachother, huuno. doesnt sound right though.

Walaalo --- East of Hargeisa till Laascaanood and Ceerigaabo

Huuno --- West of Hargeisa Till Djibouti

Abaayo,-- People who Been To Muqdisho till Kenya

Kililka Shanaad......They Use Both Walalo and Huuno

In puntland & Gobolada Dhexe, I am not Sure , They use the above with some modifications (Boowe, Maandhay, Walaalaw, Areey etc)

I say "abaayo heelay" and "aboowe heelo" or when I'm irritated "naa heedheh fiiri" or "war heedheh fiiri"

Gacaliye is used for someone who is dear to you like a loved one you don't use it for strangers or friends.

Carafaat, perhaps nowadays everyone uses whatever word they are comfortable with. Plus where u are born doesnt say much bt rather where u grew up or who u grew up with...although I was born in hargaisa i dnt speak hardcore reerwaqooyi dialect cuz I was only there for one year lol i dnt remember noin..my somali dialect although is reerwaqooyi is like a mild one - one I picked up from my family who are from Laascaanod.

They either call me by my name or any other way you would approach a girl e.g. darling, babes, chickie, hun etc. Now that you mention it Somali men from where I live don't use huuno, walaalo, abaayo etc. I've never experienced them using those words towards me or any other Somali girl I know and don't know. They seem to be more civilised and modern then Somali men from other countries I can tell that from experience. But i've noticed as soon I visit a country populated with alot of Somalis like The States, Australia and UK I get bombarded with the above Somali words.
