Masha' allah what a marvelous and majestic city Mogadishu was back in the 1950s.... Now wonder it was chosen as the Capital City of the Republic of Somalia..... I wonder if the so called Somalilanders can show us or share with us how Hargeisa was back then !!! let me guess... backward, bushes and barely unrecognisable desert... and the few buildings that Slanders are boasting about today were definitely built by none other than Siyad Barre !!!!!. Mogadishu 1950s is much more prettier than Hargeisa today so why are we constantly being bombarded with pictures of Hargeisa... this is just pure propaganda from the few that hail from Sland who probably are no more than 1 percent of the nomads here on SOMALIA ONLINE not Sland online.... note the difference!!!!! Baashi Posted November 20, 2011 There was a reason why Mogadishu (later renamed metropolitan Benadir) was chosen to be the national seat of the new Somali Republic. Fascist Italy invested heavily in Mogadishu – in both the infrastructure as well as the institutions of the city – thinking that this neck of the wood would remain under Italian “pioneers” grip and in time become Italy’s new world and go the way Americas and Australia went for other European colonies. The great folk-composer and singer Abdullahi Qarshe captured Italy’s loss in a popular song circa 1961. Valenteenah. Posted November 21, 2011 It truly was a stunning city. You can still glimpse the spark of Old Muqdisho even in today's petrified state. It was a very loved city, and Insha'Allah it will recover and stand proud again. But the rest of Somalia needs to be given the same attention, funds and love as Muqdisho.
