Jacaylbaro Posted November 18, 2011 NY Times NAIROBI, Kenya — The African Union is considering an ambitious plan to stabilize Somalia that could involve using thousands of Ethiopian troops to open a new front against the Shabab militant group, officials of the union said Thursday. The African Union’s peacekeepers are already battling the Shabab in Mogadishu, the capital, and Kenyan forces have recently begun fighting the Shabab in southern Somalia near Kismaayo. But the prospect of the Ethiopian Army returning to the country under the African Union’s banner is highly charged because of Ethiopia’s bitter history in Somalia. An official of the Somali government said Thursday that Ethiopian troops had already begun to move across the border, discomfiting Somalia’s president, Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed. Dabrow Posted November 18, 2011 I would not be suprised if it true that the are already in Somalia. Somalia is foreign playground. they can come and go as they want without permission what can that puppet sharif do? Nothing. Its frustration to be somali nationalist these days. Every direction one looks is clan-cheerleading and traitors.
Abwaan Posted November 18, 2011 It looks like that the so-called African Union wants the Somali situation to get worse and worse. Somalia does not need Ethiopian troops. If Sharif admits this AY taallo haloo taago waa laga gardarnaaye. What is wrong with siyaasiin-ku-sheegyada Soomaalida.

Qandalawi Posted November 18, 2011 Allowing Ethiopian troops to go back to Somalia is a dangerous move. This will be a grave mistake, Ethiopia sees as a great opportunity, and this time they have experience and will go in well prepared and face weakened Alshabaab and disenfranchised and disorganized Somalia with no strong character personalities at the helm of this clueless TFG. They will definitely seek and take over AMISOM and Uganda's leadership and influence. America will bless it and it will be over for a proper independant Somalia. Leezu Posted November 18, 2011 ^If they fail it will also be alot worse for Somalia probably, if it ends up like last time it will be an even stronger Al Shabaab that will not let go of Somalia... Everywhere we look we are trapped. Foreign intervention got Somalia this devastated not Somalis themselves. I saw someone say "Somalis need to say enough is enough", indeed we need but we saying enough is enough is not enough, they control Somalia not us anymore. The only thing we can do is try our best to halt them and start protesting in every major diaspora city where we have a decent Somali population. We need to protest both in Somalia and in the diasporas major cities.
Saalax Posted November 18, 2011 Could be a bad move that would boost Al Shabab.

xiinfaniin Posted November 18, 2011 Ethiopians have to interfere to solidify her influence and ensure the new scramble/players do not disturb the favorable political setting that is/has been in place. The only challenge (which is not unique to Ethiopia) is a finance/logistical one. Kenya is facing the same challenge. The African Union/AMISOM cover is a weak one for it self is facing financial constrains for its limited operation in Mogadishu. Admittedly, we are not privy to the behind curtain schemes that may be fueling this new scramble. But one thing is clear; Kenya's invasion has opened the potentiality of giving the conflict a new dimension.
