Somalia Posted November 3, 2011 Turkey has opened its embassy in Somalia, becoming the only country outside the region to have a functioning mission in the impoverished war-torn country. Ambassador Cemalettin Kani Torun and his staff flew to the Somali capital Mogadishu on Oct. 31, and the embassy began functioning the following day as part of Turkey’s increasing efforts to help Somalia amid famine and long-running domestic instability, a Foreign Ministry statement said. Djibouti, Ethiopia, Libya, Sudan and Yemen are the only other countries to have operational embassies in Somalia. Torun, a physician who has worked in Africa with the nongovernmental group Doctors Worldwide, was appointed to Somalia in September with the aim of better coordinating Turkish assistance. In August, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan became the first foreign leader to visit Somalia in almost a year as he sought to draw international attention to the plight of millions of starving people. http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/n.php?n=turkey-opens-consulate-in-somalia-2011-11-
Jacaylbaro Posted November 3, 2011 Consulate ....
Somalia Posted November 3, 2011 ^^ It's an embassy, the article refers to the Ambassador being in place not a Consulate General. Stop embarrassing yourself. What is it with people like you hating on the progress of the country? You are an autonomous region of Somalia and it looks like you will be that forever. Thankful Posted November 3, 2011 The Turkish PM clearly stated he would open an Embassy in Mogadishu, the article even refers to it as one. However JB is in such denial and shock that he can't admit the truth. The secessionists must be quite upset right now. Turkey will establish an embassy in Somalia, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday during a visit to Mogadishu to draw international attention to the famine sweeping across the Horn of Africa nation. Knight of Wisdom Posted November 4, 2011 Abwaan;755749 wrote: Taas xitaa Hargeysa kama furna so hakugu taagnaato! Why should it? Hargeysa is Somalia's second Capital, located in Waqooyi Galbeed. An Embassy or a Consulate cannot be opened in Hargeysa, which is 2nd to Mogadishu (which is our Capital).
