Somaliland President Pardons Prisoners Of War

Hargeysa, Somaliland, October 29, 2011 (SL Times) – Somaliland President Ahmed Sillanyo pardoned seven prisoners of war who were caught fighting in Gambadha. A ceremony for releasing the seven prisoners of war from the custody of Somaliland government was held at Kaah hotel.

 

The president’s adviser on the eastern regions, Fu’ad Adan Adde, thanked President Ahmed Sillanyo for releasing the prisoners, and said it showed the goodwill of the government and he hopes the other side will reciprocate, and whatever residual problems remain would be resolved peacefully.

 

Fu’ad Adan Adde urged Puntland to follow Somaliland’s example and release the prisoners it took from Taleex. Stressing this point, Fu’ad Aden added that Somaliland has released prisoners who were engaged in war, the least Puntland can do is release those whom it caught on their way to their homes in Taleex.
