Libaax-Sankataabte Posted August 29, 2011 Turkey's Minister of Family and Social Policy Fatma Şahin, addressing the high demand for the adoption of Somali children in Turkey, said: “The legal infrastructure has not yet been signed in Somalia. After the legal infrastructure is in place, there will be no obstacles.” Şahin said there have already been more than 300 requests from Turkey for the adoption of Somali children. Recalling her visit to Somalia, Şahin said one of the main requests in Somalia was the adoption of Somali children in Turkey. “According to the legal arrangements between countries, we can, in fact, do this. But Somalia has not signed the international agreement,” Şahin said regarding the feasibility of adopting Somali children in Turkey. Though Şahin said the ministers in Somalia have said that there should be no problem, according to the international agreement between the two countries, a provision must be signed in the Assembly. Şahin said she and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are jointly tracking the progress of the Assembly. http://www.todayszaman.com/news-255266-sahin-efforts-underway-for-adopting-somali-children.html
burahadeer Posted August 29, 2011 I understand their good intentions but don't think is neat idea. What if they end up in the hands of abusive parents; after all they not biologically attached.Growing up in all out white population with no blacks at all ;that don't know or understand degree of tolerance needed like in western europe. If you look closely the far right groups in internet ,you will see east europeans r the worst when u read comment section; because they don't know black people & took jim crow laws in south u.s. prior 60s literally- it's not surprising to say nigger in ur face.I know Turkey is not east european, just showing similar ignorance probably exist there. But then may be better adopted if they don't have no one take care of thm...just imagining heart break for parents missing children..in our culture it was neva an alternative. grasshopper Posted August 29, 2011 Hopefully the children will go to good homes and good people..that's all we can hope for! According to the legal arrangements between countries, we can, in fact, do this. But Somalia has not signed the international agreement,” Şahin said regarding the feasibility of adopting Somali children in Turkey. I really hope that Somali government does its job and takes every precaution to make sure the kids are protected. Last thing they need is to be adopted by a family with cruel intentions. If someone feels sorry for them and wants to help them let them do that in their country. Why can't they support establish good orphanage centers and help build schools and hospitals? I know Turkey started doing that already. I agree with burahadeer that Somali children could end up in the wrong hands. We don't want our kids organs to be used for spare parts. I think every Somali in the diaspora who is able should adopt one and help them stay in the country if we want these kind of requests from other countries to stop. Naxar Nugaaleed Posted August 29, 2011 Adopt away lol. on a serious note some of you guys are not thinking about the conditions these kids are in and what a world of difference it can make for them to be adopted by who are in need of children but can not have them for whatever reason. culture all that other none sense aside, the will being of these children should be paramount... Malika Posted August 29, 2011 ^If the case is for the child - then the child is better off with the parents despite of conditions. Emphasis should be put to improve and elivate the conditions - rather than taking ones children just because their are poor..Turkey can build orphanages/homes for the children in Somalia - where the children would have a continuity of their culture/religion and identity. Gheelle.T Posted August 29, 2011 They don't need an adoption, but assistance in their own country with their kins close. Muslim or nor Muslim, we shouldn't open the window of adoptions at all. Or it will open a Pandora box we may not be able to control. Ethiopia is already a hot spot for westerners wanna be adopter parents.
walaalkis Posted August 29, 2011 did we already forgot huge amount of refugees in Kenya were sent to australia, canada, usa and many other western nations. How is this any different ? If these kids grow up and learn to deal with racism and abusive, they better of being adopted rather then getting blown off by missile from African union or alshabab
Naxar Nugaaleed Posted August 30, 2011 Malika walaal, are you saying that were u in that child shoes, you would prefer that that you grow up parent-less in a God forsaken orphanage then with then be adopted? Or stay with parent who had way to many kids they knew would not be able raise and left you in the streets?
Abdul Posted August 30, 2011 Most of us(somalis)surely want a better life for poor unfortunate somali kids. But giving them up for adoption to foreign countries where they will grow up without their culture and heritage is no solution.
